Since I need to decide on weather I want the large HP pins or the penta HP pins, could someone give me a very brief idea of advantages or disadvantages of both so I can make an informed decision? I bet I should probably know this already, but unfortunately have to admit I dont. And the intent is to use it as a back up gun for defensive use, not paper or hunting anything. Thanks for any and all help.

I passed my last psych eval, how bout you?
in a nutshell, Penta might/ should fragment ( with harder lead alloy). Occasionally with less brittle alloy it mushrooms "easier" in sections (like a Barnes or a flower rather than a mushroom...)
Perhaps other smarter people can tell you how this particular bullet will do?
I don't know enough about this bullet nor your gun to say what's "best" for you, but personnally I'd probably try both!
So if I understand you correctly, the penta pin should fragment or expand more readily, while the standard HP should still mushroom, but not as much, and therefore provide slightly less expansion while also giving better penetration? If this is correct, then considering that my guns are a Russian Makarov with the .380 ACP barrel and a Bersa .380, and not one of the super strong .380s or 9x19s or anything capable of higher velocity, and to be frank, me having limited faith in the .380s ability to penetrate to begin with, I would probably be better off with the standard HP over the penta HP. Or do I have my head screwed on backwards with this?

The penta pins outer points are the same nominal diameter as the large HP..... little difference in initiation of expansion, just the manner of expansion is changed. Most of the problem with high performance 380 ammo is lack of expansion. Either of your guns are big enough to do what the cartridges are capable of.

I want to get in on this GB, but have a question. This boolit in 9mm will be a screamer, especially the hollow point version.
I have an order in for a PB Checkmaker, but it hasn't been delivered and I haven't played with it.
The question is will a PB Check made of .006 aluminum (Miller Lite screw top aluminum cans) let me push this boolit with full power 9mm loads, or do I need to just get the GC version.
Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the restraints!
In my humble opinion I would use gas checks for magnum pistol and rifle bullets. I see you are set on a gas check bullet and I personally would go with a bullet designed for a check, not smashing something .006 oversize and deforming the lead on a light hollow point bullet. I also would use a softer alloy,(under 15 bn.)
so the hp would upset rather than blow apart. Good luck on your choice.
Could I please back out of this GB? Had a couple things pop up that need to get done and if I manage to get the funds together before this closes, I will get back in, but for now, unfortunately have to assume I won't so don't want y'all counting on me unless I get the funds in hand and ready to send.
