Novel way to protect your plants from late freezes

Somebody in North Carolina figured out how to protect his small trees from a predicted late freeze.
I'm not even sure if they are fruit trees, but it's an interesting solution.

I’ve never been able too keep pepper plants over the winter. They are one of first things to go when a frost hits. Cabbage and spinach last all winter.

It does not take much in the way of frost to kill peppers and many other vegetables. For me cabbage and spinach could be a fall and winter crop.
