    Oh the humanity!

Please tell me Marlin didnt sell the rifle like this. Somebody surely had to have done this after it left the factory. It is an 1894 in 44 mag.

What year is the rifle? Post 83 would have had a safety and that was sold as a replacement. There are some lever hard core types the safety offended and a market was born. Gtek

Dont know the year, but this is not a replacement for a safety. Serial number is 71 242XXX.

I have indeed seen those on factory marlins. A lot of the 336/44mags had them and I've seen at least one 30/30 with one. A first year 444 that I once owned was drilled and tapped for one but the hole had a factory plug screw in its place.

Marlin sold more than a few saddle ring carbines, just like that - with the brass ring/stud.

    I've owned two different ones............

Just he ore thing to get in the way and make noise. I don't own or ride a horse so why the heck would I want one? I don't feel any urge to tie myself to my gun.

I will be finding a screw to fill the hole where this thing used to be.

Hmm. I then suggest not buying one. I will also not buy one.

My 1966 336 .30-30 had one, I took it off because I'm left-handed and it gets right in the way of my trigger finger. It doesn't look like it would, but it does in a most maddening way. I thought it looked neat, though.

For those of you who would pass on them, I love the straight-stocked saddle guns made during that time, some of Marlin's best, and will gladly buy your share. A short, socket-head setbolt and a drop of red Loc-Tite cures the problem forever.

I own it already. Took it as payment for doing some Title II transfers.

I have one just like it. I love it! The saddle ring belongs there. There are people who would like to own a saddle ring rifle. Go to the Marlin sight and ask if anyone wants it. You'll have takers. Do not throw the ring away, it belongs with that gun. I dunno, perhaps like throwing a hundred dollar bill away. Mine is a 1971 rifle. It's a shooter especially with a 265gr. Ranch Dog cast bullet.

EDITED Never mind on the buy offer, I don't want another .44 Magnum, Marlin's twist is too slow.

My issue is with it being brass. If it were blue steel I think it would look much better. It's not for sale.

I used to own a 'Texan' with the brass colored ring. Wish I still owned the Texan with the brass ring....
