There is no problem so great, that it cannot be solved by the proper application of high explosives.
This is a small bison horn. It holds just under 1/4 lb. of FFF. Plan on using it for my 32 and 36 rifles. Still need to make a strap and stopper for it. Nothing fancy.

cow horn with ebony fiddle key spout stopper and twisted staple strap holder in the butt plug.
Here's a few I have made
This one I started when I was about 12 yo. Went right down to the slaughter house with my pops and got the horn fresh off the cow. It has a pine base with removable threaded brass plug for filling. I attached a deer antler powder measure on a length go leather lace and then tied on a nice hand forged shepards crook vent pick on the other end that fits into a sheath I stitched on with waxed rigging floss. I wanted the measure and pick handy for use.

Made this one (my second horn) about the same age and also got this one fresh off the cow. Cherry Wood base with turned knob, brass pins hold it in. I carved in my name, age, town and sate I was living in at the time as well a stick figure hunting guy.
This was my first ever horn that my pops helped me with. I was about 7-8 yo at the time. My uncle got the horn from a slaughter house in MA and mailed it tome me. For all the horns I made I had to boil them to release the bone inside, I remember my mom was not happy with the nasty smell in the house!! This horn has a mahogany base and plug with brass hardware.
This is the left horn of a Mura fighting bull. Somewhere among my stuff (I think) I still have the right one, as well.
It has been 'on the back burner' for so long I don't know if it will ever get finished.

Showing the curl ...
It was brought home (for me) by my wife when she made a visit to her family in Spain.
She got it straight from the guy in the butcher shop below the bullring in Madrid.
She said it was still warm when he handed her the plastic bag, and by the time she got it home (to Kansas) it stank to high heaven.
I boiled the core out of this one and did some preliminary scraping, but not enough to eliminate the various pits and creases in the original surface.

Retired...TWICE. Now just raisin' cows and livin' on borrowed time.
Yep, those black and white Spanish/Mexican horns (bred as fighting stock…. as used in bull fights) are easy to recognize and have been some of the most common and inexpensive available. I think Tandy had a source for them at one time. Used to show up frequently at flea markets, especially those near the southern border . I bought one quite a few years ago for about $2. They make for a nice horn.
