I am looking for a mold Dropping a 359-360 dia HP mold with Hp pin 125 grain, with flat nose pin 140-147 gr
WITH a gas check? the miha 359 hp would be great but i want a gas check to use in 9mm rifles and 357 mag
maybe even 380 with pure lead hoping for a 3 to 6 cavity

i have but seems like i hear about them tearing on install? I have some samples coming i will try on my existing molds and see how much of a pain they are I really would like a 359 dia mold with a conventional gas check seems like the 9mm and 357 rifles would sure like them.........

In the 38/357 with the straight walled case just invert a normal gas check and set it in the mouth and push it in with the boolit when seating. Dave Scovill, the editor of Handloader wrote this up many years ago. I have used this method to GC plain base boolits. Make sure you don't allow any air space between the gc and the boolit.
Don't know how this would work in the tapered 9mm case.

Well i got some PB alum checks that one of the members here made from soda cans i tried using my 4500 with a .358 and .359 die 80% rejection rate on the 3 different boolits i cast in that size now (ripped torn u name it) I am wondering if a Lee push thru sizer would do better with its more gradual taper? Maybe even Base first? the few that did work look great however.

Ok an update.....tried a little lanolin and then vaseline to the base of boolit and the check.........OMG......they go on slick as.............cannot wait to test tomorrow.

Just a bit of lube on them gas checks, I never thought of that. I had issues with Lyman type dies but the RCBS dies have more gradual tapper to them. The lee push through die works well too should the nose be flat so you can push it though base first.

I installed them with my Star. I took already sized & lubed boolits, put them in base down and didn't take the handle all the way down to the pump stage. Worked great. they shot great, too !! Mike

Go over to Midwayusa and every Lee plain based bullet has a solution to putting a GC on a plain base. Each explination is,according to the one that submitted it,is done by a woman.
I can't understand why men don't do it.

The biggest problem with homemade checks of any kind is that folks seem to immediately try to have a contest to see who can use the crappiest material. If you use quality, soft aluminum material, they work like a charm.

I suggest you forget the gas check all together.

I use 358477, Ballisti-Cast 651, Lee 358-158SWC, Lee 358-158 RFP ( and a few others )

I shoot these in my .357 Mags S&Ws at 1300 fps, Thompson Contender at 1500 fps, Ruger No1, and Winchester 92 at 1700 fps.

Cast from ACWW sized .358 and Lubed with either LLA or Lyman 50/50 beeswax/alox.
The accuracy is excellent and leading is non-existent.

A buddy from the cast bullets forum over @ TFL sent me some .358 gas checks for loading plain base boolits. His instructions were to size and lube normally, THEN install the gas check. Apparently trying to lube AND install the GC at the same time causes problems. I used them on some125 rnfp made in a lee mold that had already been sized in my 450 and lubed with C-red. They all went on flawlessly.

I never got around to loading/shooting them, BUT this reminded me to put that back closer to the front burner! Getting a GC maker die has been on my to-do list for a long time. I'm a tool geek, just ask the perfesser! It just sounds like a fun project to use otherwise garbage/recycled cans to make a useful item.
