    Defense/tactical shotgun build

Just picked up a mossberg 590 20" 9 shot for some welding work..

Where should I start? I was considering the ati side folding 6 position stock set. The reciever is drilled and tapped and it has the factory heat shield.

I want to make this thing a bad looking shotgun but I want it functional.

I know... But I'm one of those guys that can't leave well enough alone....

I thought about doing my own version of the new mossberg chainsaw. I could prolly build it for $35 with my fabrication skills... And still have the factory stock set in case I don't like it

The one thing you can do to that gun that would improve it, is to get a high replacement safety button. It makes it much easier to engage and disengage the safety. You will also have to completely disassemble the gun so you will get familiar with it. Available from Brownells for <$10.

The problem with a pistol grip stock is you can't operate the safety very well, as your hand is not in a good position with your thumb under the stock.

Like William Waco said above,,, Save your money it is already set up right. It doesn't really even need the safety button, it would just satisfy your craving to modify something.

I can agree with the others on this the Mossberg 590 is already as dependable as you need! I carried one in Iraq. The pistol grip or side folding stock just interfers with the ease of operation. Spend the money and get a solid tactical light and mount, and of course the replacement safety button. Is it a ghost ring sight or bead sight? If it is the ghost ring sight you might consider a co-witness red dot sight and mount for longer shots. Is this to be used for home defense, hunting, or outdoors carry for those things that go bump in the night? A single point sling attachment is also a nice addition for a tacti-cool shotgun.

    Dagunnut,
This is basically for home defense. The pistol grip that I considered was called a raptor I think. Birds head style so the safety would still be easily accessible. I am considering the single point sling as well

Red... Wish I could get one of those. It is on my wish list

Use the money to first buy a tritium front sight. Stay away from the fiberoptic stuff.

I prefer the traditional AK look. Not easy to do the hand guard, and retainer.

I think I have most of this figured out...

I looked at the tritium sights... They are nice but they burn out don't they?

I am going to be making a custom light holder out of aluminum because most of the ones I've seen look downright cheap. I don't want picitanny rails all over it. Looks awesome but I don't want it on a shotgun.

I am either cutting the stock down or trying to find a cheap youth stock.

I found a sling that holds like 21 rounds on it... Not sure about that because of maneuvering... Nice to have the ammo right there though.

Found out I can get a bayonet... Prolly gonna have to do that just because I can lol
