Williams Peep sight drill and tap size ?

Not much experience in reading my combination screw and pitch gauge but seems that screw holding this Williams peep sight read '48G 3/32"' on the gauge. Does it mean I need a 3/32" drill ? And what size tap should it be ? Anybodu ever drilled and tapped for these peep sight before ?

I believe they are a 4-40.
When I get those taps, I get five and corresponding drill size.
Hardware stores do not have them.

Most all recv'r sights & 'scope mounts use 6-48 screws. The next up in size for gunsmithing is 8-40.
The common drill sizes for the Drill & Tap of a 6-48 is a #31 or a #32
The #32 will give a slightly better (tighter ) thread fit.

Correct - Virtually all receiver peep sight prep is 6-48, as is "most" scope mount prep, however, Marlin leverguns are D/T'd 8-40 atop their receivers for scope mount bases.

If you're talking about the Williams peep which mounts on the side of the rifle via a circa 3/4" x 1 1/4" block held on by two screws, the front screw is 6-48 x 3/8" and the rear screw is 6-48 x 3/16".
