    Another snubby pig taken

Went this morning early to move 2 tree stands on the farm.Farm is my uncle's and it is about 400 acres of Live Oak hammocks and coastal swamp( big bend area of Florida). Anyway as I was carrying a ladder stand through a stand of cabbage palm, I saw some half grown pigs feeding my way. Put the ladder stand down to make a seat in the Palmettos, bout 2 minutes later I lung shot one 3 times as the pig made a half circle in front of me. A moment later I heard it crash in the pungies (slang for dry palm fronds).Gonna be a 60 pound pig on the bbq for the 4th. ( my uncle Jimmy always says if you see a pig shoot it, they mess up pasture grass something fierce). My old S&W model 60,back pocket holster, 4 Lee 158gr. round flat point, cast from salvage lead pipe, 3.0gr bullseye - all shots less than 5 steps.(1 shot in the ear just for, gets exciting when you are carrying a pig and they decide to protest- don't ask) Have a Good 4th Everyone,God Bless,Danny

Congratulations to you. Pig hunting is on my bucket list. Just have to find a place that can accommodate me and my bum leg.

Good story and with a chief special, and a 3.0 gr. of bullseye to boot. You can't beat that. Good shootin' and have good July 4th.

Sounds like a "him or me" situation. Good SD shooting.

Nice story. Closest I've come to that is shooting squirrels and rabbits (in the snow) with my S&W Model 15 and HBWC's.

I always have knives - 2 is 1 and 3 is just enough - In Florida ( mid to late sixties for me)growing up the family's ran free range hogs in Gulf Hammock(now a management area). Twice a year there would be a plg roundup, spring to dip them and cut them, fall to butcher pork. The pigs were captured in live traps, most eating pigs were caught and killed with a "case sticking" knife. These were feral pigs and catching them and killing them with a knife was quite a "sporting" proposition!

The closest I have come to that was a neighbor had a sow get out to a timber and have a litter. He could not get or her pig cought so he told every one to shoot them. Me wanting to help went out with my 7mm mag. The 139 grain bullets done a number on the 60 pound pigs. After 3 went into.the freezer my mom told me to stop. Guy finely got the sow cought. He also got a few pigs back.. Don’t.know if he found out I got a few pigs.

    Close shots are exciting.
One of my best stalks ever ended with a feral sow shot between the eyes at five feet!

I believe I would consider that WAY TOO CLOSE!

Raised 3 hogs as a teen. 1st was a Hampshire, IIRC. Black and white like the Holstein cows. Friendly, almost a pet, though we named him his destiny, which was "Porkchop." Then a pair of red hogs, who were very not friendly. Slaughter time for them, they got a shot from a 250-3000 Savage in the forehead.

The pig spent 10 hours on the big grill then we had a picking. Split in half and mopped every 15 to 20 minutes. A few different cool drinks, a few dips in the redneck pond - all was good. Every one ate well - it was a good 4th, God Bless our Forefathers that blessed us with this Great Country, and God Bless America.

I was pondering how practical it would be to hunt with some stouter loads out of my S&W Model 60 with a 3" barrel, it's so accurate when I'm messing with target plates... but I find you beat me to the punch!
