    Dextron AFT in mold cavities

I got my new copy of "The Fouling Shot" yesterday. A very interesting article by Ken Mollohan titled "Technical Ramblings: Modern Lubricants".

Of special interest is his experience using Dextron AFT for sprue plate lubricant. He got some in the mold cavities and it appeared to help casting.

I recommend that you visit the Cast Bullet Association and read the article.

It will be interesting to see feedback on this.

Dexron wont leave varnish or ash like motor oil will.

Is the article on the website or just in the printed Fouling Shot.

The article is only available only in the printed The Fouling Shot. I should have checked before making my post.

After reading the *Fouling Shot* article I now know why my "Pinko Commie ***" aka 4-1-1 lube works so well. It's by-volume 4 parts beeswax--from Randyrat--1 part lithium-based auto grease and 1 part Dextron ATF fluid. Mix over heat and squeeze the lithium grease against the sides of the container with a spatula as it doesn't want to mix.

I've used it in 357 mag and 30-30 rifles to 1900 fps with zero leading. After hunting season I think I'll do a how-to article. I haven't used it since I discovered Lee Liquid Alox. Got some new Buckshot cake cutters to try, too.

    Junior,

Are you still using this 411 lube, or have you converted to Alox?

If you are using the 411, are you cake/pan lubing?

    Thanks

if you use a tacky version of the #2 lithium grease it has polybutene in it, which is a good friction modifier/lubricant/tackyfier.
the atf doesn't leave ash behind, and is a good bbl conditioner.
those are the two main working ingredients in the simple green lube too [polybutene[2-stroke oil/ and dexron atf]

Nope, I converted to LLA several years ago. I used 411 pan lube w/cutters and also poured it into my Lyman 450.
