Powder Coating Boolits

Some powders work great IF you add a little of another color to it like the speckled yellows I posted. The yellow alone was terrible.

I have been getting favorable results with Eastwood Mirror Yellow!!

I am quite late to this party but I wanted to give this a try. I have been shooting cast for awhile but never got into the PC boolits, until now. I had some HF PC and gave a shot I had black and white. The white by itself didnt coat well. I tried the black and no good. I mixed them together and set the #5 plastic bowl in my tumbler and let it shake for about 10 min and they was well coated baked 375 for 20 min and successful. Looking forward to shooting these out of my glock. See if I can post a pic.

Unless something has changed recently, HF black has never been good for shake and bake. The red and yellow both seem to work the best.

Something that does work with the HF black (if you don't want it going to waste) is to create a soup by mixing it with Acetone and then swirling your bullets until covered. That is what we all did before discovering powders that allowed shake and bake. I believe this was called the Piglet (??) method.

You are correct nether one is great. But together it was useable. I have some Eastwood light Ford blue coming in the mail. I will try the soup method to use up the hf.

I would highly recommend trying some of Smokes powders that are sold here on the forum, his Carolina Blue and Signal Blue are very simular to Ford light and dark blue. I can also highly recommend Super Durable Clear and Transparent Copper. http://castboolits.gunloads.com/show...raying-bullets

HF red is the only one that ASBBT good. Black is very poor quality, most use carbon black pigment the doesn't flow very well. Get some of Smokes (or other) powder.

I have been using Mirror Blk and Carbon Blk from Cardinal powders with excellent results.

They can be seen in my video link above. Basket baked zero sticking or hickie issues.

My favorite is black teflon (from Powder by the Pound IIRC). It really smooths out the sizing operation and the bullets don't seem to stick together as much.

After powder coating is there a need to resize sooner than later ? If you coat large numbers and do
not size them for months are they harder to push thru the sizer ?

boolits tend to age harden. PC'd boolits generally size easily if not then just spray a little case lube on them.

Like any cast boolit, the harder the alloy the more you have to decrease the diameter == the harder it is to size them.

I PC'd (ASBBDT) sifted off the BB's and all the excess powder and dumped 14.5 pounds of .312x75 boolits on a baking screen and baked them for 30+ minutes.

A quick shake in the basket and none of them stayed stuck together and no marks on any of the boolits.

It really is very forgiving if you don't require a showcar finish. I use to worry about light spots but after a few thousand down range I have only had 1 minor bout with leading that cleaned up with solvent. Shake, bake, size and load.

Sinbad Purple Prismatic Powders. These were tumbled in a square peanut jar using my DIY case tumbler small-batch conversion (a square peanut jar, some SS pins, brass, citric acid, dawn, hot water for brass lol not used on PC )

I like purple too. These Lee 230 grain boolits are my first powder coat effort. I used Eastwood Translucent Grape because I had it on hand. This is two coats dry swirled in the #5 polypropylene tub without BB's.




This is for 7.62 x 39. I have POUNDS of this Eastwood Machine Gray on hand and again am fortunate that it adheres when dry swirled in the #5 tub without BB's. This is two coats just to ensure complete coverage.
