    win 54 accuracy wisdom

Ihave a 54 in 270 and never shot it. My son wants to use it this year so we dug it out and it shoots cast real good but he wants to use it out to 250 yards. So to jackets we go and now the question. Are there any tricks to tuning these guns with the barrel stud? Should they be snug, loose or cranked tight? I have a limited amount of bullets and I am seeking a shortcut to better groups.

guessing you are talking about center stock screw??? keep it tight,. that is a second recoil lug
Most wins dont like cast unless you size to .277. which is special

The 54's have a threaded shank under the rear sight area of the barrel and is attached to the stock. Iwant to keep this gun original but it sure is tempting to eliminate this barrel to stock attachment.

i'd just tighten the main one and not so much tighten the front and rear one.
about the worst you are gonna do is 1-1/2"-2" 100 yd groups.
that's good enough to get a deer out to 150 yds any day.
and really is a shot within 3/4-1" of the aim point.
