it hasn't really changed but there are some slight variations.
I posted a V-2 up above with some slight variations.

leftiye is right about just about anything working in many circumstances.
I think everything that has been used to lubricate steam engines and space ships has been mixed into beeswax and thrown down a barrel.
the trick is controlling what is left behind.

Ok, couple of items. First, why isn't this a sticky? I would have discovered this sooner.

Second: After reading of the many different additives, the one I am wanting to try for the slick part is Mobil EAL Arctic 22 CC. Spent 10 years working in HVAC (family thing), so now I have about a gallon. My question is, with compressor oil being hydroscopic, will the lube attract water after it is made or does the mixing with the other items (ie wax and stuff) keep that from happening? Thanks for your time.

I'm taking a stab a bit here. [so I'm basing this answer on my assumption]

I think the oil your talking about is an ester like an A/C ester-100 oil.
if so, you have to be very careful about adding it to waxes for boolit lube.
not that the oil itself is bad but because it can leave a very thick film behind in the barrel.

as to it being hydroscopic, that is it's down fall.
we don't use glycerin for the same reason, it is a good lubricant but it's tendency to continuously pull in moisture would be bad for the barrel.

I'm glad this got stickied, this is the only lube I've ever made, and I can't find a reason to make anything else. I've dipped, pan lubed, and formed it into sticks for my lubesizer.

How can it be made to be less sticky? And, would that make it less effective?

    leave the lanolin out.
but it will still have some tack.
beeswax gets that way when it's modified with mineral oil.
you either get enough to just get tacky or add more to give it a slickness that gives off too much oil in the heat.

I'm using the original formula with no lanolin. I was thinking maybe a little more bees wax? Thanks

you could try @5% paraffin to see if it settles out the sticky a bit.
the sticky is a product of both the lanolin and the break down of the bees wax by the Vaseline
you really don't want it to totally go away or you'll lose the wax flow which is essential.
the paraffin addition will add a crumbly feeling, and take away the pan lubing effectiveness if you add too much, so you want just enough to sop up some of that oil.

Thanks a Million for the reply. I think I may leave well enough alone. Maybe I'll try some of that seed lube...LOL to reduce the sticky. It's really not that bad to be honest. I do love the way it pan lubes!

a little dusting of mica or graphite will cover up the tackiness of the lube enough to keep the boolits from sticking together.

Mixed up the original formula this week. Gave a nice cream sky blue. (Downy Bottle Blue I call it)

Very easy to pan lube with so far. Let's see what bore conditions we get.

I'll second that - I use the original with the lanolin in everything as my staple.
I may play with others now and again but this stuff rocks and is always my first choice.

Gonna whip up a batch to pan lube some rcbs 250 K boolits. That boolit really does call for a conventional lube as opposed to TL lubing. Any suggestions for tweaks to make it pan lube friendly?

I wish threads like this were around back in the day when I was scrambling around trying to find lube.

I am going to mix up a batch of this today and try some pan lubing with my 250K boolits.

Update; Well, it worked. Used regular non synth 2 stroke oil and plain old dexron equivalent trans fluid. I quadrupled the recipe. And I got good results. But I think pan lubing is a way to try conventional lube without investing in a lubri sizer press. So I'll need to see how these boolits perform out of my Super Blackhawk and 24-3.

They shot great out of the Blackhawk. No smoke and no leading. Going to try some out of my Henry single shot.
