I'm having a bit of a problem getting a Lyman slot blank on my 94. It goes in about 3/4 the way and just refuses to go further. There's a dot on the underneath side of the blank and I assumed that's to tell you that's the thinner side and I drove it in from right to left as looking from the back but it won't go but just so far. Suggestions?

Make a blank out of your old rear sight. Is one way that I know of.

I use a dremel tool to adjust the blank's sides. Either the angle, width or thickness. Could be all.

I took some sandpaper and laid it flat on the table and took some metal off the bottom. They took a triangular file that fit the sides and honed off a little there followed by a hard stone. Put some oil on the bottom and sides and it went it better but still not even on both sides but, I'm gong to leave well enough alone. I don't want to keep tempting fate and scar the barrel...lucky so far so it's quits.

I use the Marble blank but I always have to measure it to determine which direction it goes in/out. Never had to fit one, tho.

The only commercial slot filler blanks I never had to fit were the undersize Williams brand, with a central setscrew to hold it secure.
A filler blank that's too loose is an abomination.

I sure didn't have to worry about this one being too loose. It was .375 at one end and .371" at the other.

With the several I have installed they have to be filed to fit. I believe the instructions tell you to file only one, not both sides of the dovetail part of the blank. They should install from right to left looking at them from the buttstock end of the rifle. It is ideal to have a triangular file with a blank side for this job.

There was no instructions with this one. Lyman can be as bad as Lee about instructions.

I have shot them without the blank installed and with the blank installed and could not tell the difference. If you are too tight renove the metal from the bottom. one swipe across a sheet of 40 grit sandpaper will remove a LOT of metal.

You are quite right not only with blanks ,but new sights as well. It is a slow process,as you remove as little as possible,fit the piece,and if still to big remove a little more. The last thing you want to do is make it to small.
