    out of office chasing elk

Been busy as usuall. Week long elk hunting trip starts on Saturday for me. Going to hunt local around MT. Hood area here in Oregon rather then going to the east side of state as usual. We shall see what becomes of it. It will be fun to get away for a short while.

I do have a few PM's I need to get to and apoligize for the delayed responses.
After hunting season around here the weather really gets lousy so I will have plenty of time avialble to put together lots of dies and get to all those PMs.

    Swage On!

Hope you have a great time a nice elk would just be a bonus, I have sent you a pm about some dies. Since I dont know **** about swagging like alot of us my ? may seem for lack of better words dumb. But what I want to do is turn that 10 gals of 40 cal brass into something to shoot in my 45s and 44s. If someone has gotten one of his dies and for some strange reason dont want them anymore shoot me a pm.

No luck chacing elk yet. May take rest of season off.

Ricky, I have just the die for you, making .429 bullets from all that 40 S&W brass is well worth it and not at all difficult. Even 45 cal bullets is possible with a few more steps. I'll get a reply to your PM as soon as I can.

That time of year again for me. Just got back from 4 days of chasing elk with a bow this year. No luck but lots of fun. Oct 1st starts rifle deer season for a week. I'll be out of the office for a few days the first week of Oct and have a few PMs to catch up on from the last week or so. I'll get to them as fast as I can.

    Good shooting and Swage On!

When you can go to the weather channel and see for yourself that HE!! has indeed frozen over I'll shoot you a PM and sell you mine, but not before.

I owe BT one heck of a review on those and with all the things that can be done with them. These things for lack of words are totally AMAZING.

Checking in for a couple days. Nothing yet. Only deer with horns we saw was on private land right next to state park. I leave again Thursday and return Tuesday in an attempt to try and fill my tag. Just deer hunting right now. Wish I had a elk tag.

I'm back in the shop and it's time to get to work! I got a lot of orders to fill and PMs to reply to.

Had a good hunt with my dad. We saw a few small bucks, took a few shots at one that was a small 3-4 point but missed, then saw a very nice 4x4 or better large buck yesterday morning but it was to far for a shot.

I was happy to see the large buck even though it seems the deer numbers are way down in NE Oregon. We let them grow up anouther year and I guess it will be deer tag soup this year for me.

As for pics of previous success here is a couple. I have only shot two deer with my home swaged bullets. Both with 176 grain 30 cal bullets made from FN5.7x28 brass shot out of a 300WM. The one and only elk I ever shot was 3 years ago before I perfected any of my 338 bullets.

My elk taken with a 300 grain SMK shot from my 338 edge at 530 yrds

    my dad with my elk

View from where I took the shot. The elk was in the clearing on the FAR hill side.

Last year's buck taken with my 176 grain 5.7x28 jacketed bullet from a 300WM at 250 yrds

First buck I took with my home made bullets. The same 30 cal 176 grain bullet this time at about 75 yrds.

Here was a monster I took maybe 5 years ago with a Sweedish M94 6.5x55

Haven't shot to many more animals then this. Obviously I am not going to starve if I don't get anything, the time spent in the hills with family and friends is reward enough.

    Good shooting and swage on!

Beautiful animals, great scenery. Sometimes the reward of the hunt is just being outside with friends/family and nature. Besides, it's called hunting, not shooting.

As much as I have loved hunting in New England, my favorite hunting was certainly elk hunting with bow and arrow in Colorado, in the flat tops, north of Rifle. Up in the Butler Creek area.

Base camp was at 10,000 feet. Highest place in New England is the top of Mt Washington at 5,000+ feet. How do you get ready for the Rockies?

Anyway, I am glad that you had a great time with your dad, and that you're back home safe and sound. I haven't yet sent off that M1 carbine brass, but will shortly.
