Looking for a 1911 master

Good morning, All.

While my wife was shooting my Colt series 80 stainless Gold Cup Match, the front sight came off. Needless to say, this needs fixin with a dovetail sight, but I am looking for someone to do a trigger job, smooth it out, and if there is any accuracy enhancing things that could be done to it, to do them. This is a NEW pistol with less than 100 rounds through it and I am not interested in sending it back to colt. If anyone here knows their way around the old warhorse, I would prefer to pay someone on this forum for the work. If there is someone who is not a member of this forum who is really "just that dang good", I would consider using them also. I would really like this to be the "working crown jewel" of the safe as the wife was really comfortable with it. (And it looks REAL nice hanging off her hip. Or her hip looks real nice with it hanging off it. Wichever. It is a nice view.)

I don't consider myself a master by any means, but I know my way around a 1911.
I can do just about any mod that needs to be done, and I have done it to my own pistols. Everything from custom grips to diamond lapping the rails to fitting custom barrel bushings.

I can do the work, and have 30 yrs experience with 1911s, but not a FFL and you are out
of state. If you want to do the sight (original replacement, not dovetail) I can do that
by you sending the slide, after you decide exactly which sight you want. I have NEVER
had a front sight come off after I do it properly - with original tang mount. But if you
want a dovetail, I'm not experienced doing them because I have never had a problem
with the original design done properly. Trigger work requires that I have the frame, so
can't ship it to me legally.

I've been really busy with the shop this year so I haven't had much opportunity to cruise here lately, but I saw this post and couldn't resist the opportunity to drop some 1911 porn on ya...

One of the latest developments here at the Salmon River Custom is the work I'm doing for law enforcement, specifically the Lemhi County Sheriff's Department. Several of the deputies carry 1911s, and lately I've been building them for the department.

One of the post 911 anti-terrorism measures was making mothballed military weapons available to civilian police departments. In this instance, it's 1911 pistols. (And M16A1 rifles, but that's another story.) The before pic is a 1945 vintage 1911A1. It's equipped with an Air Force contract match grade Hard Slide, as confirmed by the assembly number on the slide. It was mothballed at the time the military made the conversion to the Beretta M9.

The work I do to update the pistols is as follows:

*Lower & flare ejector port
*Bevel magazine well
*Raised button Beaver tail grip safety
*Dovetail Novak sights, front & back, drilled & pinned
*Nighthawk Custom Long Reach trigger
*Fit NM busing, minimal tolerance
*Mueschke ambidextrous safety, GI profile
*.010" longer link pin
*Ed Brown match sear
*Full spring kit
*Wilson Commander hammer
*Full ramp & throat job-- the gun will feed empty cases
*Trigger tuned to department specified 4#.
*Rough machine work removed from slide
*Parkerizing stripped, the whole gun bead blasted and matte blued

One of the deputies has a Kimber Elite Pro as an off-duty carry gun. (The Elite Pro is an alloy framed, commander sized 1911 that has been given the full contour butter treatment by Kimber.) Originally it was a two-toned gun, and in this case, quite worn.

One of the new things I do here is Cerakoting, and this gun got the full treatment. Cerakote is probably one of the best products out there for restoring aluminum gun parts, and for refinishing guns of dissimilar materials, it's indispensable.

The other pic is of department guns in here for other work. In case you're interested, the light of choice is Sure-Fire. The last pic is the gun from my previous post equipped with the light. As you can see, this is after it's been in the field for a bit.

I see you are in Victoria. Alex Hamilton of Ten Ring Precision in San Antonio is your man. He is the best pistolsmith in Texas by far. You won't be disappointed in his work.

Find out if there is a USPSA match/club in your area. Such shooters sling ten of thousands of rounds a year and know good gunsmiths.
