    Got me a 1885 in 32ws

At the gunshow on Saturday and found a Winchester 1885 in 32 ws. It has a heavy long round barrel with sights. $80 for the rust and all.
I heard some where that this rifle was made for cast boolits and black powder so it has a 1/16 twist.
I will try to clean it up and snap a picture soon.
I now need to add another caliber to my list.

The original 1885 certainly was made for black powder and lead bullets -- but like many of the classic lever guns, was later sold in a smokeless version with faster twist. Both should work well with black, but the faster twist may require more frequent wiping to prevent fouling from affecting accuracy.

Careful with on the cleanup. These have a fair amount of collectors value. Don’t do anything that will remove any original finish or patina. You got a steal.

I have been looking for a 1885 Highwall action or a restoration suitable rifle for years with no luck. Looking forward to the pics

Are you sure you didn't leave off a "0" on the price?
I don't think anyone has ever bought a Win. 1885 for $80, not even a basket case. A lever alone is worth that!

Here it is. I will be-careful on clean up. I just ordered brass and dies at midway.

I am on a group buy on the 8mm sil. Do you guys think this will work ok? I also have my old 8mm lee mold for back-up.

Of course i will slug the barrel and soon.

    HighHook,

I'd be happy to triple your $80, no problem! Nice find there Mister.
