Iver Johnson model 2X single shot 22 rimfire. My dad had one 55 years ago when I was growing up, it would shoot minute of bottle cap at 25 yards, we spent about half an hour looking for a 30-30 case I hit at about 40 yards when I was kid. (That was when my eyes could still see the sights). We spent countless hours hunting with that rifle, it was always a treat when it was your turn to pack it instead of the .410. My brother has it now, he wanted the 22, I got all the rest.

I'll second the Model 58 Smith, and add the original 'long butt' Colt Detective Special. In stainless steel.

I'll Second the "Stevens Favorite" IF it is re-engineered to improve its action strengths while not greatly increasing it complexity nor weight.

Yes, Savage is building the "Model 30" but it is larger, heavier, and rougher than the old "Stevens Favorite".

    Savage model 24's - 20 ga offered with 223, 357 mag/max, 30-30, 44 mag

    Remington Nylon 66

    The Ruger #3 - I have 223, 375 BB, didn't like 45-70 but would welcome 357 max, 44 mag, 30-30, 358 wcf

Savage 99 with the top tang safety
    Yep and rotary magazine - in 243, 308, 358 and 30-30, 375 BB
    and what about a scaled down version 7.62x39, 223, 32-20, 25-20, 22 hornet - ooh boy
Wonder what a scaled up version in 270, '06, 35 Whelen would be like.

I also like the Winchester Model 12. I have had one of them at hand for over forty years. It is my favorite shotgun.

There have been many guns listed that I agree with. Here are some of mine:

Remington No. 2 Rolling Block in .22 LR, .32S&WL, and .38 Special.

An affordable entry level .22 that is big enough to last a shooter a lifetime. The little Crickets and the like fit young kids, but they have outgrown them by the time they are 12 years old.

Affordable ammo and components sitting on the shelves of the local gunshops.

Winchester Model 12. I love that gun. My dad had one with a 30 inch full choke barrel. It's the standar by which I measure shotguns to this day.
