Hello, everyone. Well, I finally got everything I need to start loading some rounds for my Colt 1st. model Richards conversion. Started to crimp cases..nothing doing!
I removed seating plug & tapped empty case into die mouth with rawhide mallet until rim stopped at die mouth & tapped back out..still no crimp! RCBS must have used .44 Spec./Mag. die specs. when they made these. Called RCBS today..they want me to send seater die back. Now this would be fine..except it's getting late in season & I've waited nearly a year to try it out. Besides..backing out seater plug once all set up just to crimp..has always seemed a pain to me. I have a Redding Profile Crimp die for .44Spec./Mag. Difference between these & .44 Colt is .050" So.... with die chucked up in lathe..I had to use ceramic insert to touch it..these things are hard! Recut chamfer on outside & rounded inside edge..polished everything up & I am in business!
