    I guess I didn't realize just how small time my operation is. I'm lucky if I cast 100 boolits in a session. Of course I'm using a 2 hole Lee (all of my molds) and my "pot" is an 8" cast iron pan on a single burner atop a small propane cylinder with a wooden rack to support it and I ladle cast.... To say mine is a budget operation is an understatement at best.

    And no, I don't cast in September here on the SC coast. I wear WAY too much safety gear to consider garbing up and melting lead this time of year. I usually do it in the late fall to early spring. After that its just too darn hot for me.

    palmettosunshine;
    Don't worry about how few bullets you cast in a session. Most of us started a similar way.

    I started casting when I was a teen ager. I thought when I did fifty bullets with a Lyman cast iron 10 lb pot and dipper that I had truly done something (FLASH: I had - I was learning every session). After doing this for a period of time, ( casting, reloading, and shooting) I ran into an older fellow (heck, he was probably 30-35 years old LOL) at the rifle range and invited me over to his place for some advanced casting studies. He and his brother used four cavity moulds, a bottom pour pot and cast thousands at a sitting. After working with him a bit, I invested in a four cavity mould, a bottom pour pot (Lyman 11 lb) and I was on my way.

    Over the years, I gradually added guns, moulds, pots, & smelting operations, until I ended up with what I have today. One weekend, my two sons and I cast, sized and boxed 13,000 H&G #68's. I cast the bullets and the two boys sized. subed and boxed them. My two sons became excellent casters and shooters.

    Cast what you need. As your shooting progresses, you will know when it is time to increase your capability...

    Since putting everything in storage in June and coming to Maine last month on a temporary work assignment I haven't cast anything. Hopefully I will have new diggs by Decemberor January. Then it is game on.
    At one with the gun.
