I made about 12 quarts and 24 pints of pickles this past summer (June/July 2013)...... They turned out way too salty and vinegary for us...... Therefore, they are perfect for brine (ie, boiled eggs, puppy peckers, etc.....

The most important thing is the brine, taste test it first, if your brine tastes good, your eggs will too. I also add about a tablespoon or so of pickling spice to some cider vinegar, bring it to a boil and let it steep awhile then strain it through a tea strainer....steg
Go to Wally World and get a big gallon jar of the oversize pickles for $5 and you've got a perfect jar for making pickled eggs.
I've tried straining the spices out and I don't think they taste as good. I leave them in now.
Note to self, don't get in the car for a long ride with WILCO any time soon...
