I had one years ago and 14 runs in my mind, but that sounds awfully slow, maybe 12. It wouldn't shoot 50 or 55gr bullets worth a darn. IIRC the best load was with 45gr bullets and H-110, don't remember how much. Guess I didn't help you much but someone will be along with the answer that still has one. Wish I still had that one, but I did double my money on it.

They were all 16" twists in the #3. Have had one since '75 and have checked numerous others until they wen out of production. I believe the factory specs say that also.

Bought mine new in '76. It's also a 1-16 and, and even with JBs doesn't like anything heavier than 50 grainers.

I thought it'd be fun to wake up this old post.
I have a Ruger #3, 22 hornet, I've owned it for several years, it has done a little varmint duty with J-words, but I think I've only had it to the range a total of three times. Well trip number four was last tuesday.
I hadn't been to the range in quite some time (with any guns), I brought a 38 revolver as well. I figured I'd shoot the #3 first, and I was quite excited...so excited that I forgot to put in ear protection..well, I fixed that after the first shoot...I'm glad I wasn't shooting a 500 S&W Mag that day, to remind me to put in the ear buds
Anyway, I had some boolit loads I assembled a few years back and never got them out to the range. Some were loaded with NOE 225-45 WFN plain base and some were loaded with the original short fat bator, both had the same load of lil'gun. The NOE was disappointing to say the least, the bator shot OK, but could have been better. 50 yard, off-hand, as I forgot to bring bags that day
I guess I never really gave it much thought before, but the Bator (50gr) does have the most bore-contact area for that slow 1:16 twist than my other four 22 molds, so logically it should shoot better. So, on the list to load, goes some more 22 hornet and some bators...and some faster burning powders, Unique for one. The Lil'gun loads were kinda hot, almost J-word speeds, I plan to slow that down some.

Well, mine is a 1976 "made in the 200th year" production, but it is 1 in 14". I checked it twice to be sure.
Wish I still had mine, it would be cheaper to shoot than a 22LR.

Believe it or not I have never shot mine either.

Still wish I had my #3 hornet one of the few guns I wish I still owned , but I was getting head seperations a gunsmith checked it and the action would close on a no-go guage + a few thousands feeler guage added , sent it back to ruger for repair they said it was within spec and did nothing, and sent it back
I was going to get it rechambered to K hornet but after wating for about 6 months for my gunsmith to do it, he was going to borrow a friends chamber reamer well it never happened and I traded it in on a target scope for my new 22 lr silhouette rifle.
Another story, years later bought a new ruger 77 hornet when they came out accuracy was poor ! sent it back to ruger two time's for the problem they did some repairs both times but the best a could do was 1" at 50 yards after trying various powder & bullet combos and 2 known good Leupold scopes . traded it off and will never buy another Ruger product !

I have a stainless H&R Handi and it is loads of fun to shoot. Think I'll take her to the range today (I have a 100 yd range on the back side of my property).
The old Winchester model 70 in 22 Hornet used the same rifling as the 22 LR, little tighter on the bore and 1 in 16 twist.
