Another 300 Blackout Bolt Gun idea

What about buying a Savage predator model, in 223, with the medium contour barrel, and having one of the gunsmiths rebore the barrel to 300 and a rechamber?

I've read some really good things about some of the rebores that have been done in the forum here. Or should I just start shooting cast in my 308 LTR?

    Thanks,
    Crabo

While there is nothing wrong with this idea, there is more to it than a simple re-bore. better to go to a .300/.223 if you want to re-bore. The reason is that the chamber for the .223 is longer than the .300/.221 and it is not easy to set back the barrel this way with the Savage system.
One of the great things about the Savage system is that barrel swaps are not difficult, getting a new barrel is a little more expensive than re-boring, but it will give you the possibility of two different cartridges.
One thing, while the barrel swaps are not difficult, you do have to know what you are doing (and have some basic tools) to get things like barrel tension and head space correct.

except that savage dropped thier 300blk bbls.
they were working on makng a 300 aac rifle then just dropped it recently.
you'd want to go aftermarket anyway.

Yeah, Shilen lists this as the .30-.221. E.R.Shaw, Lothar-Walther and Douglas don't list it at all, but they will get you a suitable blank that a gunsmith will chamber and thread. There are some others but I can't think of them right now. At least one of the three mentioned would probably chamber and thread the barrel even if is not on the commercial list.

    300 blackout bolt rifle

Getting the barrel is not the hard part. Making a Savage or Remington action correctly extract and eject the short case is the major hurdle. Go to www.savageshooters.com for more information on the ejector issue.

Go to www.gunshack.com for the savage barrels.

I'll have the sporter contour barrels back in stock in the next couple of weeks or less.

    As advertised on this forum:

    http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?t=133129

I try to keep the Sharpshooter Supply ejector kits in stock, along with an oversized extractor detent ball - it pretty much eliminates any extraction concerns. For $8, it is a definite improvement for any of the shorter cases - 7.62x39, 358 Gremlin, 6.5 Grendel, Blackout, 458 SOCOM, etc.

I really like that setup too. What bottom metal/magazine is that?

I see no reason to rebore with the reasonable cost of pre-fit barrels. Just sell the 223 barrel to help offset the costs.

I've got one of fireball168's 300 blk barrels on my Axis and it's a fantastic shooter.
