    Lube for a cast .45-70GC 450gr

I am going to be working with my NEI 450gr RNFP GC .460 mould after Elk season this year. I'm hearing Javilina is discontinued??? I'm currently using SPG for my handgun loads & it's working very well.
I'm kind of new to cast bullets for rifles, & am wondering what most of you use for rifles of .45 & velocities of 1400fps, not over 1600fps?
    Thanks ahead of time.

    try what you have....
viscosity is as important as lube make-up.
why worry about lube failure before it even happens.

black powder lubes usually work quite a bit better in smokeless than many would think , one has to recall that some black powder cartridges approach 16-1800 FPS leaving me to suggest just as five has done - try it !!!

To answer your question, I use a double coat of White label Xlox on all my boolits in both my .45-70s. I also pre-swab the bore with a 50/50 mix of mineral spirits and Xlox. I do this after I clean the rifle so it's dry when I fire it next time.

Thanks everyone, maybe I'll just try the SPG.

Shooting smokeless, WhiteLabel CR works well for me. SPG works too, but pricey stuff.

The disadvantages to using common BP lubes for smokeless loads is water content and variable performance beyond the mean temperature range used for testing due to "organic" constituents.

    what gear said:
was it might not work in all temperatures.
    especially the hot.[i added that]
and there might be a chance of excess water in the lube [desirable in black powder].
don't use a lot of lube.

Frank Yrrrr in big sky country and it gets cold enough during the elk season, don't mess with hard lubes or expensive lubes. Give my TAC SOFT a go or even the standard TAC#1 will work in colder temps. SPG will do the trick but over double the cost.
I don't like changing things up a week before hunting season, trying to figure out if a lube is going to work when the temp drops. TAC will work in most temps consistently.
PM me your addy and I'll be happy to send you a sample stick.

Felix Lube. I have several large bread loaf pans of it stashed now. I lube all my rifle, handgun boolits with it. Even tumble lube boolits get run through the sizer and Felix lubed.
