Im really bent about my marlin 39a what should i do???

I picked up a 1959 marlin model 39a golden mountie in almost new condition. Its easily my favorite rifle...i just discovered that i must have had a squib that i backed with another round. Neither were in the bore but i was giving it a thorough cleaning and noticed the ring. Couldnt get it out and realized once held to the light that there was a small bulge....needless to say im beyond pissed...what a stupid move...anyway, how could i get it rebarreled? I understand marlin wont do it because of its age.......leaving as is is not an option, it'll drive me crazy knowing its wrong........

i have a 1959 39a mountie with a bulge in it also just in front
of the foarm. It does not afect the shoting.

I've got an old Winchester .22 that is beautiful on the outside, but has a bulge just in front of the chamber from way back in the 1930's. It is my most accurate shooting rifle. If it shoots great and looks great from the outside, I would live with it. Just my .02. Rod

It isn't hurting anything unless you want to sell it. I have a mossberg with a bulge and a crack in the top of the barrel. works fine, just a little more quiet. I wouldn't worry about it.

I have several rifles with "defects" in the bores, they all shoot great with cast, even full-tilt. If it shoots and isn't an obvious safety hazard, forget about it.

Had a Model 29 Smith with a 10" barrel and a gawdaful bulge just forward of the frame, so bad I expected the barrel to break off eventually. It shot 3 MOA at a hundred yards all day long with medium loads of 2400.

Yep, same thing here. Have a Rem 580 with a bulge in the bore about halfway down. It still shoots into less than an inch at 50M. If yours still works I wouldn't worry about it too much.

I have a parts gun M-94 with a similar bulge. Of my 5 30-30's it is easily the most accurate.

Get a copy of Hatcher's Notebook. He dealt with a lot of bulges in barrels and found most of them never bothered the accuracy. Fascinating book.

A bulge nearer the chamber may not be as catastrophic as one near the muzzle. I've got an Anschutz 1607 target rifle that has a bulged barrel about 1" from the muzzle (found after it was shipped to me) and it barely groups into an 1 1/2" at 50yds. I'm going to try and bore out the last inch of rifling and see if it will shoot. In your case, if it won't shoot to your satisfaction a liner may be the best solution if you can't find a replacement barrel. Lots of .22 rimfires get relined and if done correctly it is hard to tell it was done.
