    Red Dot

Stopped by the LGS today and for the first time in forever they had powder for sale. (no primers though) I Picked up a pound of Red Dot. Now I can finally try "the load". 7000 grains (1 pound) divided by 13.0 grains means there's 538 cartridges hiding inside that powder can!

I've used Red Dot for cast bullets for as long as I've been loading cast. In calibers from 22 Hornet to 45-70. It's a great powder, and "The Load" works, where appropriate. In smaller cases than 30-06, come down and work up, and you'll find something that works well.

I haven't tried Red Dot with cast in any rifle rounds, but I've used it in everything from .380 ACP to .45 Colt. It's a darned good propellant in every caliber in which I've used it. It meters well, burns clean and gives very consistent results. It is the propellant I use to make my over-pressure but functional" .38 Spl. rounds that consistently launch 158 gr. LSWCs at 1000 f/s or more from a 2" snubby barrel.
I much prefer it to Bullseye.

I've used a lot of Red Dot in a lot of different rifle cartridges.

For the most part most of my loads were in the 3.5 gr, 4.6 gr or for bigger bore up into 6.5 gr.

All shot very well, quiet, accurate, and thrifty on the wallet.
I truly believe we need to get back to basics.

What a very good sign... I would be lost without Red Dot. I use it in virtually All of my Cast ctgs.... Not exclusively... but they All have a Red Dot Load... Like "The Load". but, more than one!!!!

Very versatile stuff. Haven't tried it on corn flakes but for loading boolits in most cartridges it will go bang.

jmho - not only versatile but also very economical - more bang for the buck using less grain weights -
use it in pistol. shotgun, + cast bullet rifle loads -

Great stuff. I have used it in just about anything that I have. This was from a Marlin 336 with microgroove rifling, which is not supposed to work with cast bullets.

Also don't be afraid to drop from 13 grains of "The Load" down to 10. Even easier on the shoulder, quieter, and 700 rounds loaded vs 550 ish.

I’ve used Red Dot in shotgun, pistol, and cast boolits in rifles. Dad was an avid trap shooter, I shot skeet, and trap, so, yeah, we bought it by the kegs! Then moved to 700X and never looked back!!!! But, there will always be an 8 pounder of Red Dot in the magazine.

In a 30/06 the Lyman starting charge of 10.5 gr and 311291 did well for me in several rifles.

I keep a minimum of 2 8lb kegs of Red Dot on hand. When I open one, I rotate the stock and purchase another. Currently I have 35 different powders on hand for the 14 calibers I load. Red Dot is the only one that can stand in for ALL of them.

One of my more recently developed loads is 3g of red dot behind an 86g bullet in .300 Blackout loads. It shoots like a laser at 10 to 30 yards out of my Handirifle. I came up with this load for dispatching garden pests with out alerting my neighbors...

I am a complete Believer in Red Dot.. I am always on the hunt for my next jug no matter how big or small… I got no problem trading my less knowledgeable friends out of theirs either….

I've never tried Red Dot only because I've had Green Dot on hand since the 1970s. Loaded it in 12 and 20 ga shotshells and in handgun for many years, and now in rifle for the last several years. Don't overlook GD if you have it on hand.
