    1917 American Enfield success

Hi, I just got a 1917 Eddystone that had been 'Sporterized'. Luckily it was just the stock. I did some dealing with flydoc on a full length stock(no handguards).

I loaded some Lee 150gr RF boolits (153.5-154.5 naked) Shoed them with hornady cks and lubed w/ speed green, all loads were with alliant 2400, loaded 2.960 C.O.A.L Fed LRP no filler

This is first target at 50 yrds with iron sights POA was base of big diamond
Load 16.5 hit 1" low and 3" left 1535 fps avg
    after sight adjustment
Same POA 18.5 gr hit 1" rt 4" high 1730 fps
upper left diamond shows 19.0 gr 1" rt 3" high 1790 fps
lower rt diamond is 20.5 gr 2" left 2" high 1850 fps
    Nothing to get excited about

had some more loads to shoot
Nothing great all loads above 17.0 shifted impact and started opening up. I had loads going all the was to 21.0 gr so I was not getting indications of high pressure so I figured I could watch them open up.

center is 17.5 not bad at 7/8" and 1670 fps
    lower rt is 19.5

upper right is 21.0 gr of 2400 under the lee 170 gr RNFP

    so the last target shows
    center is 18.0 gr
    lower right 20.0 gr
But then 21.0 gr under Lee 150 gr RNFP bullet squeezes down into centered, 2.5" high 5/8" group!!!!!! upper rt in photo

    1884 fps avg

So, if the groups start opening up and you don't have pressure signs keep shooting. You never know what will happen.

The Enfield MK 1 front sight blade is the same as the US 1917 and come in different heights. They are available from Springfield Sporters. The front sight can be drifted for windage and some guys sells neet little tools to do this on Ebay. It uses opposing allen headed screws which is more precise that using a punch and hammer.

I would get rid of that things as soon as you can. Like Krags and 03s, they become addictive and you want more.
Disclaimer: The above is not holy writ. It is just my opinion based on my experience and knowledge. Your mileage may vary.

"5/8" group!!!!!! upper rt in photo"

A little reward for a good turn? A small POI for a big PIF?
