In rememberance of our dog, Zorro.

By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill,

Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still.

Where the friends of man and woman do run,

When their time on earth is over and done.

For here, between this world and the next,

Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest.

On this golden land, they wait and they play,

Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day.

No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness,

For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness.

Their limbs are restored, their health renewed,

Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued.

They romp through the grass, without even a care,

Until one day they start, and sniff at the air.

All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back,

Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack.

    For just at that instant, their eyes have met;

Together again, both person and pet.

So they run to each other, these friends from long past,

The time of their parting is over at last.

The sadness they felt while they were apart,

Has turned into joy once more in each heart.

They embrace with a love that will last forever,

And then, side-by-side, they cross over… together.

I will miss you old man, and I will see you on the other side.

Sorry for your loss. Last Friday we took Georgie, our 8 year old Golden female to the vet. She seemed dehydrated. By the end of the day, after discoving internal bleeding of liver cancer nodules, she had to be put down. She was bleeding to death, and it couldn't be stopped.

I understand your pain and your loss, and wish you the best. Losing a best friend is incredibly heartbreaking.

    Thank you for the post.

Stolen and passed on to someone who just lost his one and only dog.

He needs a pickup as he has just been diagnosed with cancer.

Yes we love each and every one of our pets. They are a real joy in our life.

Go out to a shelter and gain a new best buddy. It helps ease the pain.

That brought tears to my eyes. For just a minute I could see my black lab Pierre in that field.

I second what Bad Water Bill said. After a few months we got a pointer. It helped a lot.

That poem reminded me of my Airedale i had as a child of 10 yrs old. Benji was hyper and had to control. I took him to obedience classes and after 6 weeks, he would heel, sit, laydown anything i commanded. i could heel him without a leash, tell him to sit and stay and go inside the house, get a pepsi, watch tv and 30 min later come back out and he'd be in the same spot.
He was hit by a semi on the highway we lived on. He'd gotten out of his kennel over night. I had to drag him off the road and haul him to the back 5 acres and buried him. I buried him facing east, on top of the hill, so the sun would rise on him daily.
That was 33 yrs ago, and it seems like yesterday.

I too know the pain of losing your best friend. I lost mine back in 1998 and I still feel it to this day.
I found out that time does not heal all wounds, just makes it easier to live with. On the cement I put over him I put this in "I will love you for all time and time ends."

I feel all of your pain and have been through it several times in my life and it never gets any easier.
This is Emma and she has bone cancer on her back right leg. The tumor has doubled in size since I discovered it 3 weeks ago.The vet says once it is noticed that it has already metastasized to the internal organs and it is just a matter of time and not much time. This just breaks my heart but all I can do is make her as comfortable as possible till the last trip to the vet.
