Dan, glad to be of help. Most shooters, unless they are top drawer match shooters, care less about gunpowder lot numbers.

I have cans going back to the '50's and earlier, but can't prove it - primarily DuPont. Their lot numbers couldn't be deciphered by code breakers IMO. Have even contacted the DuPont Hagley Museum for their code logic then - nothing

This one is one of the sticklers: it's FFFg and the lot is 03 - 106. No idea what the 106 means? Another FFg can is 04 - 30. The 04 should be 02

These are my Handi's. The survivor model on top is chambered for 357. This is the most shot and most fun gun I own. I never go to the range with out it. The scope is an old Valor 6X, but it serves it's purpose. The one on the bottom is my 45-70. I love that laminated thumb hole stock. The gun wears a 2.5 to 7 variable scope on it now. Dale

i would buy a b-p loading manual. there is more to loading b-p then just dumping it in the shell.

I'll second what bob208 said. The Venturino/Garbe book is good as is about anything by Paul Matthews. Either should get you going with pretty fair results right out of the gate.

what's kind of funny is that both of those cans, while obviously are black powder, the graphic on them is clearly an IMR smokeless powder, NOT black!
