Congradulations on the new rifle.
You'l find you will enjoy shooting that rifle more then most others, theres something nice about setting up with a box of cartridges you cast and loaded yourself, taking your time and enjoying operating the action. Shooting the old single shots is definately one of the finer things in life.
Saved for 7 years to get my shiloh, so I can understand the wait. But I bet it was all worth it to you and the rifle was everything you expected.
What model did you get and what caliber is it chambered in?
I am picking up my new used Shiloh 30-40 Krag today. I know what You feel like,Good luck.

Shiloh's are one of the few rifles to which there is attached great pleasure and satisfaction in merely owning one....or more. If you throw in the shooting of them....well....priceless...

very cool guys...those rifles are such a gas to own and shoot. i so love my 45-120...it also took me a bunch of years to aquire it...[a shiloh hartford model] ...that i began to wonder if i would ever get one.

A SHILOH or a C. SHARPS is a one-in-a-lifetime purchase for some of us. SHILOH has a great web site and enthusiastic supporters. My 50/90 SHILOH LONG RANGE EXPRESS is one of my most treasured posessions, along with a pair of custom saddles and horse gear that I've owned since the 1970s.

First sharps I ever held was an 1875 by c sharps with a heavy barrel in 45-100 it had the tang sights and german silver tip. She was on consignment at the store and at the time it was too rich for my blood, but I still remember how I felt when I got to hold that thing.
I went with the Shiloh because they had exactly what I wanted on the rack, but I always wanted to have a C sharps one day, but have never seen another one around here since I saw that first one.
The fit and finish are great. i was after a hunting rifle so i went with 45-70 28in. heave octagon barrel. its a little heavy but im sure i can talk number one son into packing it for me.not much diff. in the light barrel so i went whit what was comfortable to shoot.i know alot of guys say shilo is the only way to go but i was not going to wait that long. and for what ill use it for i bet no one could tell the diff. well anyway im a happy papa

the only thing i cant live with is the front sight. i was going to get the blade front but ended up with a globe front with .025 post. my old eyes just cant see it. now what would you guys put on the front im thinking a blade . but then i saw the aperture with inserts. thinks bill
My eyes work ok still with the glasses or contacts in, I started with the circle inside the arperture and it worked ok, but settled on the plain cross hair.
You might want to try the thick post arperture, just one thick black line sticking straight up. Theres also the "abreviated" cross hair, which is the 4 thick lines tapering to a point.
Mind you these are for the montana vintage arms sights, I dont know what C sharps supplies for arpertures.
Your in for alot of experimenting though thats for sure, but its not a chore when you have a good rifle like that. I actually hate reloading but dont, mind doing it for the sharps, the shells hold out longer for the single shots and the big cases and bullets are easier to hold and handle.

i waited till i got my shiloh with the blade front sight to shoot a good blade and there is no comparison. all my opensighted rifles now wear the blade only i put a higher blade in for my older eyes and i pick rite up on that front blade without the globe around it...also it looks rite on my hiwalls and sharps rifles. would like to get a blade for my ruger also but may have to just make it myself.
my pedrosoli/uberity wears the globe front but i have the straight post in the globe so it acts like a blade...may just change it out for a blade also tho.
I like the Globe style sights because I usually shoot in the sun and have lots of trouble with glare on open front sights.
I gave away a carbide sight blacker a few years ago and now they want a small fortune for them. I sure do miss it.
I have the old eye problem also and right now, the thick post seems to be working the best for me.
my first sharps was a garrett arms 1866 carbine in .50-70. it is a dead ringer or the real thing. he only made 100 of them.

A fella named Garret?
frank garrett had rhem made and imported under the name garrett arms va. this was in the early 80's. they were top quilty. that was their down fall they cost too much and the dollar fell and he lost money.

I still have my carbide blacker, they are a good investment. Check around and see if there are members of a PPC league in your area. PPC shooters all had them and might have one available.
Or, there is an "aerosol carbide" spray, I never used it but some of the younger guys thought it worked well. Others just used a black magic marker with a wide tip to get good coverage. To my eye, the magic marker blacked sights always had streaks but you may have better luck.

I had a Garret, they are excellent rifles. I had to sell mine to cover medical bills for the X years ago.
The solid soft lead bullet is undoubtably the best and most satisfactory expanding bullet that has ever been designed. It invariably mushrooms perfectly, and never breaks up. With the metal base that is essential for velocities of 2000 f.s. and upwards to protect the naked base, these metal-based soft lead bullets are splendid.
