    Mossberg Maverick ?

They have these at Walmart and Big5 for about $200.

Short barrel, large mag capacity. Looks like a mossberg 500. Whats different?

I just want to play with some RB, slug, and buckshot loads.

The name, They are made by Mossberg, and the bbls interchange with the 500 series. I have one and it shoots great after about 3000 rounds of slugs and double ought buck without a hitch. Mine is about 14 years old.

They are a lot the same as a mossberg 500 except the trigger group and the forearm. Hecho in mexico. I digeress from my position of if the government wasnt competding withh prroduction with "aide" it would be made here. Not too bad a gun for the price point.
They can take my guns when they get past my IED's.

Tha action is made from aluminium on the Maverick and it has a safety on the trigger group.
Apart from that they are interchangeable for parts.

Don't they have a plastic-like synthetic trigger guard? That puts me off for some reason.

They don't have the top safety feature as the maverick trigger group and safety is a copy of winchesters 1200 if i recall correctly and they also have the same cartridge elevator as the 1200 so that's also different from the 500. The 500 and the maverick both have aluminum receivers. For about 50 bucks more you can find a used wingmaster, but my brother had a maverick and it's actually not a bad shotgun for the money.

Here are pics of my 88 and 590.
    All internals are interchangeable.
    Safety in triggergroup on 88.
    Both trigger groups are plastic.
Slight difference in design of pump grip.

Your guns are older although i see yours has the Winchester trigger group/safety the newer mavericks also have the Winchester type elevator I could be wrong though as I've had so many pump guns i may have my facts confused and I've never had a maverick, but am going by what i remember about the one my brother bought from walmart a few years ago.

I have a new Maverick. The elevator is the same as a Mossberg 500. They have always been that way.

The gun is a solid value for the price, and it's worth 200 bucks. Besides the safety, the forearm is pinned to the action bars rather than the action bars being attached to a metal tube (look at picture above). While this may attract some criticism most users report no problem, and it's cheap to replace if it does wear.

No functioning problems with mine. Save for the safety in the trigger guard, internal parts are the same as a regular Mossberg.

O.K. that clears that up. The one thing i did like about it was the position of the safety because i had always liked them on my winchesters.
