Woodman keep us posted on how they shoot. You are doing exactly what I planned to do once this weather gets a bit warmer.

Shot a bunch of these today at 20 yards. Used the Pentas which came in at 224 grs with my lead and 5.0 grs of Tightgroup. Loaded at 1.25" Total of 50 rds were shot at the same target they all grouped about 3.5" for the 50 rds. This was off a bench, with a 1911 with about 25K rds thru it. Recoil was pretty heavy. Would not want to shoot a bunch of these like on a normal range day.

    It's here!

Finally wrangled it away from the postoffice. Wow! That is one pretty mold.
The wife used to be a machinist so I acquired an appreciation for good metalwork and this certainly qualifies.

    Mihec FTW!

Got mine cleaned-up and fired-up yesterday. If the boolits weren't frosted they probably weren't quite filled out around the tip, was using the penta-point. Was casting at 675 and higher, using CWWs w/ about 20% soft lead added, the mold needed to be HOT. This cast much better than the 9mm I have from MiHec...maybe it is just a learning curve for me. I was concerned about tinning in the cavities, had a small issue with than in my 9mm mold, that was part of the reason I cut the CWWs with soft lead, and it conserves my WW stockpile. Will cast some with the large HPs, round noses and flat points, then lube some and test drive. So far so good.
Take a kid to the range, you'll both be glad you did.

Anyone have a 452200 HP Mihec mold that they could place side by side in a picture for a comparison. I was temped to get the 452200 in a 4C hoping it would have a shorter nose. It appears that way by the picture, but I'm not sure where to find dimensions.

That is the easiest drop of any mold I have EVER cast with!!! Sticking every now and then, but I am waiting judgment until its been through several sessions. Amazing. Side note, what is safe to clean the cavities with? Typically, I use Hoppes, but with this being brass, am considering using Kroil. Id like something to clean the lead a little better, though. I've got a little smearing from opening the sprue a little early trying to learn this mold's "tempo." Suggestions?

To help avoid smearing use the mold lube that came with the mold. Once you cut a sprue, leave the bullets in. I like to use a Q-tip and wipe a little around the bullets on the mold, but make sure to keep it off the edge of the bullet otherwise it can run into the edge and cause poor fill on the base edge. Sometimes I wipe it on the bottom of the sprue plate. then open and close it a few times. Drop the bullets and keep going.

There are different methods of cleaning. A lot prefer hot soapy water, scrubbed, rinsed, and dried. I would recommend taking all steel screws out to avoid rusting and holding moisture. I like to use Q-tips and alcohol and clean the cavities and top of the mold before each session. Also refer to the molds and maintenance thread.

Customs held it for three weeks.

Load question - anyone loading this with Herco? If so, how many grains? I have a bunch of W231 but have a lot more Herco and would like to use that instead.

    Thanks!,
    AZBrian

This mold drops the most perfect boolits I have ever cast. I get 1 out of 100 that isn't perfect and even when not perfect, they are still good. My 45 is going to start getting much more of a workout.

PM sent. Would love a 4 cavity if still available. If not, a 2 cavity will do. Thanks!
