Red Dot in 45 Colt

As things would have it i have some old red dot in a old cardboard keg. It is still 100% and has been shot in 380-9mm-45acp so far.
So far all I have shot in the Ruger Bisley 5.5" are and they all shoot well with the loads of
WW231- 7.0
Trail Boss 5.2
Unique 8.0
Bullets used are Lyman 454190 250 grain
But see they have loads for the use of Red Dot and i sure have lots of it. So who has used it in 45 Colt and how did it work?
4.5 {535 FPS} - 6.5 {835 FPS}

And Ruger-T/C
6.5 {835 FPS} - 9.4 {1097 FPS}

For standard SAA type loads, it works very well. Red Dot is also great in .44 special loads.

I wonder how much Red Dot is close to the 8.0 Unique as that is the best so far i have shot from it.
Yes i will start low and work up but asking anyway

I really like Red Dot and its substitute, Promo. 6.5 grains in my 45 Colt w/250 gr., 44 Mag. 240 gr., 44-40 200 gr. All nice plinker loads.

I have used 9.0 Red Dot under a 255 grain Keith bullet for many years, in my Ruger Blackhawk. It gives about 1050 fps.

My CAS load for over 20 years is a 255gr boolit and 4.5gr RED DOT. Also load 12 gage with it.

The old factory duplication load to equal the 250 gr. RN loading is 6 gr. of Red Dot to give about 900 fps. I`ve heard that with newer Red Dot the load is now 6.5 gr. to get about 900 fps. I have used this load for years in my .45`s and have punched holes in deer at reasonable ranges using a RCBS Keith style 255 gr. plain base WW alloy load.Robert

My 45 colt accuracy load is courtesey of a member here, DanWalker. It is 6.5 gr Red dot and a 250 gr SWC. If it won't shoot well with that it generally won't shoot well at all.

I like 7.5 grains of Promo with 230 or 250 grain bullets. I've loaded it higher, but somewhere between 8 and 8.5 grains the recoil starts getting nasty w/o a corresponding increase in performance, and the accuracy goes to pot. (maybe the accuracy thing was just me)

Instead of loading Red Dot (Promo) max loads, I switch to Herco for the hot stuff. But loaded medium, Red Dot is very accurate.

I shoot 7.3 grs of reddot behind the 200 gr lyman 452460.this load is the most accurate load ive ever found in my ruger bisley.out of the 7.5 inch barrell,this load does 1020 f.p.s. average.
have shot many thousands of this load.

I use 7.7 grains of Red Dot under a 250 gr. RNFP hard cast # 2 bullet and Federal 150 primer. Chronyed at 1130 fps in a 16 inch barreled Rossi 92 rifle. Slightly slower in my 12 inch Rossi Ranch Hand.
Safe in my guns and recoil not a factor. 4 out of 5 rounds within an inch at 50 yds with iron sights. Very clean burning and not excessive blast.

Yep! 6 grains of reddot has been my only load for 30+ years.

I have probably 150 rounds that I unfortuntely didn't mark the boxes. I attempted to pull the bullets with the magic hammer but cannot account cannot come up with a 6.5 grain load so maybe they are the 5.7-5.8 that I get when I use the Dillon hammer to pull the bullets. All I know is the recoil is kinda harsh from what I remembered.

+1 for Red Dot/Promo 6.0 gr. under a 200~250 gr. boolit in .45LC.

I use 6.0-6.2 gr Red Dot with Lyman 452424 in USFA single action. Below target is at 55', 2-handed. It is nothing spectacular but about as good as I can do anymore. I think the gun and load are capable of x-ring accuracy. The failure to achieve same is due to the shooter.

I use either 6 or 6.5 grains of Red Dot with that boolit. Can’t tell much difference in the two, so I load 6.0 no. Nice load in the 45Colt.
