It's better if you roll the boolits between two steel plates coated with Flitz to embed the driving bands with it. Do this after filling the grooves with traditional lube.

Gear, if I may, I'd like to add just a word of advice to your suggestion.

Link, if you decide to try this, use a VERY LIGHT pressure on the steel plate you're doing the rolling with. I'm not jokin' ya', you can actually roll the diameter of the boolit smaller with a bit too much pressure on the plate you're handling.

Are you talkin' 'bout polishing/lapping the bore? Or smoothing the action? A bit of Flitz placed on sliding/mating surfaces and worked may polish the action a bit, but the gun should be thouroughly cleaned to remove all abrasive before re-assembly. I have read though, of hand polishing a bore using Flitz on a patch...

I have polished many a rough bore this way.
I wouldn't put it in a lube or on boolits...but maybe I'm missin' out ?

My Winchester 94 .357 had a slightly rough area ahead of the throat the tended to lead a bit. I loaded 5 wadcutters with rubbing compound in the grooves instead of lube over 3 grs of Bullseye and shot them. It seemed to do the trick as it no longer leads there.

try some bright white paper as a paper patch.
the titanium dioxide will shine up and smooth out a bore right quick.
if you want it done faster, add some lapping compound to the outside of the paper.

Ain`t no worser than fillin a revolvers action with tooth paste to shine the innards a bit (not me) but it did get into every nook & crany of the works & hardened quite concretely what he could`nt wash out !!!
