Looking for load data for this bullet powder combination. Have had great results with 5744 but that powder is getting too expensive.

Same here. However, I "lucked out" and got some AA5744 on close-out for$27lb. otd. Used 13. Red Dot. Shot great in afew M24/47 and not so great out of others.

16gr of 2400 is a good place to start.
My standard load is 20.5 grs 2400 in 8x57 Mauser. That's the weight I get using a Lee dipper. Both Lyman 323470 and Lee 170 gr.

Hey Dutchman, what velocities are you getting with that load?
I'm using the Harris suggested load of 16 grains, which produces excellent accuracy at 50 yards from my Gewer 98....about an inch or so with rear sight set at 600 meters. Might have to kick it up to 17 grains at 100, haven't tried it yet. In any case it has proven to be a great starting point with immediate success.
I've shot some 2400 in my 24/47 with the Lee bullet. Started at 16grs and went up to 20. Had gas leakage and sooty cases up to around 18grs. Accuracy OK with the heavier loads.

A person I have shot with offered a jug of 5744 he had traded into for 60 bucks a year or two ago.
I jumped at it and then he told that he had already sold two and could not figure why anyone would pay that much for that powder.
Just goes to show that contrary to popular opinion BPCR shooters just don't know it all.

What about load data using this biology and unique?
What about unique powder with the 170 gr cast gc bullet with 8 mm mauser
Made up some test loads with 2400 powder from 17-22 grains at one grain increments. I will shoot tomorow with my chro and publish data.
22 grains 2400 was most accurate with 3/4" at 50 yards 1900 fps.
Sixpointfive,
The Lyman Reloading Manuals: 3rd Edition ©1997 & 47th Edition ©1992 have the info your looking for on Unique and the 323470. I believe www.MidwayUSA.com has the 3rd Edition on sale. It's exclusively for cast boolits. The 47th Edition has both "J" word and boolits. The 48th Edition ©2004 dropped Unique as a cast boolit powder for the 323470. I don't know why. (Other members chime in at any time!)

This is why I have a quantity of old reloading manuals. If an old manual has data for Unique and 2400, and the new manuals do not, there is probably some tech reason. That said if you start on the low end of charges from the old manuals with unique and 2400, there should never be a problem. At least that is the theory I have been using for a number of years. I would never be without either powder. They are sort of like old friends.

I don't know what weight the 323470 is, but assuming it is in the standard weight range for the caliber I would second the above to start with Ed Harris' 16 gr load and work from there. A .30-06 is similar in capacity, and I settled on 18 gr of 2400 with a 196 gr boolit. I use that load for our reduced course (100 yd) NRA highpower in my O3A3 and am very pleased with it.
Oh sorry, now I see in the title it is 165 gr. Go for it with 16 gr.
I have had a lot of luck using the lee 170 grain over 18.5 grains of 2400. Very accurate at 50 yards. No leading. I wish I had a chrony to get a firm velocity on it.

Start at 12grs of Unique and work up. Probably 13 or 14 grs will be the most accurate.
