    .338 Hunting Boolits

    Guys,

Beginning to think about casting for the last of the larger (over 30 cal) rifles I own. Have a Win M70 in .338 WM and a .338-06 built on an FN Mauser action.

I generally prefer flat nose bullets for hunting use in the larger calibers.

Please comment on what designs in the 210 to 250 gr range that feed and are accurate in bolt rifles.

    Thanks,

    Mike

Ditto for me as well. Want to stay in 250 - 275 grain weight for Ruger No. 1. The only problem with the .338 Win. is that short neck!

I use the Lee C338-220-1R (part number 90372). My rifles are both Rugers and shoot it well. I keep velocity below 2200 fps. and size them to .339".

Did I read on this forum that someone had a NOE 225 gr Ranch Dog mold?

Me thinks this may be a good one.

Get in on this GB and get the HP option, and then you can use an extra pin to make a FP one.

my old TCR in 338 WM shoots the Lee 220 very well at 1900 FPS. I would not hesitate to use it for elk in the jungles of Western Washington if I wasn't already using my 444.

I shoot the Accurate 34-240B out of a Rem 700 with 3/4" groups and IIRC, 2200fps, using 4759. I have one of the 225 NOE moulds, but haven't tried it yet. I size them @.340"

How much 4759 does it take to get to 2200 fps??

the lee works great but the checks are very hard to seat. They made a punch for me to run the boolit backwards. It works
the one blammer is showing would be good if it were around the 200gr. 250gr is too much for cast. The RD is best if you are going to shoot a lot.
Try the 5744 it does one hole for me in 338-06

Why on earth would 250gr be too much for cast, I shoot almost that weight in 30 caliber, shoots great.

LOL... I have been learning that, well, lets just say... I have been learning that the hard way around here... ... ...

Concerning cast bullets, I have been learning there is a whole different set of rules for loading and shooting... ... ...
