    treasure trove for 44 enthusiasts

I just came across this collection of 44 Spl articles that is pure gold. It even included a collection of the 44 Associates letters and a copy of the Lyman - Ideal #40 reloading manual!

I sure hope this link works OK. You may have to copy and paste it. Enjoy!

    Thank you Molly.

I was scanning the 1st 44 Special print and saw the load range 2.0s Bullseye to 24.5 2400. Holy Cow, those guys were brave or foolhardy (or both) I used to load 22.0 2400 years ago in a 6" 629 and that was a handful I can't imagine putting in 2.5 more grains.

Nope. What you see is pretty much what I found.

Hmmm. Not quite true. I have a private Excel file with 388 loads for the 44 special and 489 loads for the 44 Mag that I'd be willing to share under two conditions:

    1. Someone tell me how to keep the data in columns. When I try to paste Excel files, any blank spaces just get covered, and the data becomes undecipherable.

    2. It is formally acknowledged that this data is simply what I've accumulated over the years for a variety of sources - with correspondingly varied judgements - and I will accept no personal responsibility for it.
    Regards,

    Molly

Boy these are good articles. It would be nice if this didn't get lost in the maze of other posts. A sticky would be nice on the 44 spl info.

OK fellows, here is my first attempt to add my personal Excel files for 44 loads. I reiterate that this data base is from many different sources, using many differnt guns, powder lots and having considrable variation in their skill and judgement. Add possible transcription errors to that, and you may understand why this information is provided for your perusal and information ONLY. There is NO WARRANTY for the safety of this data. Any data you find interesting should be cross-checked with other sources of reliable data.

Rats! The screen isn't wide enough to display properly, but if you cut and paste, it should present normally when you import it into your copy of Excel. You'll notice that there are a few lines at the bottom left blank where you can add your personal loads.

Error message: "The text that you have entered is too long"

Sorry fellows. Anyone that wants the data will have to send me a PM with your email, and I'll send you a copy as an attachment.
    Regards,

    Molly

    Strange Load Result

WOW! Maybe YOU can help me.
I have a Rossi M720 3-inch barrel .44 Spl. I had been handloading 6.3 grains Unique behind a Herters 240 grain swaged lead bullet. When I first started with that load I noticed unburned grains of powder. The shell is less than half full with that much powder. So, AHA, I brainstormed, put a wad over the powder and it'll ALL burn! So, I made a cutter by beveling a .44 Spl shell into a sharp edge and cut wads from a polystyrene foam meat tray. I then loaded the same 6.3 grains, lightly pressing the wad into contact with the powder and finished the loading process. When I next fired The Rossi with those wadded loads, the gun KICKED LIKE A MULE, but THERE WAS STILL unburned powder. WHAT is going on? I have fired Hornady 180 grain loads, Winchester Silvertips and several brands cowboy action loads in that gun and not even the Hornadys kicked that hard.
