    S&W J frame

Is $320. a reasonable price for a S&W 36-1 revolver? It's in good condition with the only finish wear at the muzzle from a holster and a small scratch on the side plate.
It has a 3'' barrel and bobbed hammer and the DA trigger pull is very smooth and even. From the info I found it was made in 1977 and appears to have been shot very little.
    What do y'all think?

Depends on where you live. In the KC area, that would not be too bad.

Compared to Gunbroker prices that is a very good price.

That's a fair price in good condition. I'd check the firing pin hit on a primed case. If the gun seems tight, the clyinder locks up well and the fp hits pretty well centered on all five chambers, it's probably well worth it.

S&W is currently producing a J-frame that can be had new for $399.00. That was at a local gun store about six months ago.It is not polished blue , it has the matte finish. It also has a shorter barrel 2" or 1 7/8". It may noy have been a steel frame, I can't remember.
With the popularity of concealed carry permits the price of the J-frames has esculated over the last two-three years. The 3" barrel is a little harder to find. Most J-frames are not shot a lot but a continuous diet of +P loads can loosen them up.
I feel that $320.00 is a fair price for the pistol you described, anything under that I would put in the "It's a Bargain" class.

Thanks for all the info, I thought i did ok on it but just wanted some other opinions, I don't plan on feeding it +P loads, I never really had much interest in small revolvers , but this one shoots real nice.

In MT it would be an easy way to make $75-$100.

    Very good price

One of my biggest regrets when it comes to guns I have sold is a three inch barrel S&W J frame with a square butt. When S&W brought back some of their classics a few years ago I thought, here's my chance to buy another one , that is untill I read the price. After taxes and fees it would cost a cool thousand bucks. Mind you the gun I am talking about was made of steel. I don't do aluminum. It's for screen doors and airplanes. If your gun is all steel, you did good. Excuse the poor grammer.

it is all steel, and a square butt too. They must not have made as many square butt frames,
there's allot more round ones available it seems.

I think you did well. Load lighter boolits and shoot moderate loads for practice. I like the Lee 38-105-SWC, 356-120-TC, and 38-125-RF. Get some Federal Nyclads for carry.

So far I've loaded only the LEE 358-158 RF in it with 3gr of Trailboss ( the wife likes that one) or the same boolit and 5.5gr #5 both seem like mild loads. I started using that blt in my 6'' 357 and have had good luck so far. I'd like to use the same blt for both.

Me too! Ya did fine, sir.
I don't paint bullets. I like Black Rifle Coffee. Sacred cows are always fair game. California is to the United States what Syria is to Russia and North Korea is to China/South Korea/Japan--a Hermit Kingdom detached from the real world and led by delusional maniacs, an economic and social basket case sustained by "foreign" aid so as to not lose military bases.

    My 3" 36 was dead on with 158 swc.After I got a 2" 637, as a whim, I was amazed to find I liked the1 7/8 better,go figure. I also had a 3" M37 airweight with which I shot my chrony. I don't regret getting rid of them much.I never figured out the 37. The 637 is great with 125_130 grain boolits
Closest recorded range Chrony kill (3 feet with witnesses)
