If you do, make sure the lard is salt-free.

Reading some of my VERY old literature, lard or other animal fats/greases were used for lube.....but the problem is that it turns rancid after a while. So if you wait for a month before going to the range, you might that you have the whole place to yourself!

Perhaps 10 years ago, I rendered out a quantity of venison tallow, boiled it in water twice to remove any salts and cast it in a muffin tin. Almost parafin-like, it is still sweet with no refridgeration and summer temps of 90+. Just stored in plastic bags. These days I see 1# packages of lard in the grocery that is not refridgerated. The store has AC, otherwise the lard would run like water in the summer. Correction, the lard is hydrogenated, with added BHT & BHA to protect the flavor, .........yum. No data on long term hydrogenated lard storage. It's cheap, do the test and give us an olfactory report. John

Maybe Emmerts Modified and use the lard instead of Crisco and add 1 teaspoon per pound of Carnauba?

I assume your shooting black powder?

Here's the recipie I might try:

    50% beeswax
    40% lard
    5% jojoba oil
    5% lanolin
1 teaspoon per pound of carnauba

You would have to try this and see how hard or soft it is after.

Carnuaba for the slickness and polishing. Pork fat to get the Muslim Meanies... LOL
    A combo that works is:
    WilsLube
    4 oz - Alox
    4 oz - Beeswax
    1.5 oz - Carnauba flakes
    2T - Pork fat/lard
    2T - Paint thinner

Melt it together in a small slow cooker and use a ladle to fill the to just above the loob groove on your boolits. Doesn't seem to work on tumble lube boolits.

BTW If it's a tumble lube boolit, it's tumble lubed with a few drops of Alox.
