Do you have Harley dealerships in Australia? Their motorcycle wax is 100% carnauba.

Yep, got those down here, Harley's been popular since just about day one.

But same as all the other carnauba products here, damn expensive.

Their carnauba polish [Mothers] is $18.30 for 12oz + shipping.

I looked up the MSDS for JPW and aside from a bunch of VOCs (volitile organic compounds) it is about 3/4 parafin and 1/4 carnuba. Since I boil off all the VOCs when making 45-45-10 anyway I substituted these ingredients and have been very happy with the end product....

    Here is another option
When I was younger, I made my bullet lube out of a mix of
    Marfax and Beeswax.
    Is Marfax available Down Under?

Thanks Mike, the only reference I can find down here on the web to Marfax is a couple of old TEXACO OIL TEXAS COMPANY MARFAX posters on fleabay.

I think I'll just get some straight canauba & start making up my own mix.

Theres many different formula’s here that will keep me occupied throughout our upcoming winter.

Youre spot on there Nick, as long as I stick with the base ingredients I can't see any reason that I wont get the same results making up my own mix of 45-45-10.

There is another advantage of simply combining parafin and carnuba to make the base: not having to cook off the VOCs is much safer. Early on when I first started making 45-45-10 I was cooking some JPW in a coffee can on the side burner of my propane BBQ. The can was only partially on the burner and it was on very low. Nonetheless it was a little too hot. I peered over the rim and saw a thick fog of white vapour. Noting that as an interesteing condition, I gently blew into the can to clear the fog so I could see how much the fluid level had dropped...only after I blew into the can and saw some of the vapour spill over the side did I realize that it had made a rather grevious tactial error. The ensuing fireball was two meters aross and rattled the kitchen windows. It was enough for my darling wife to actually put down her book and look up to see what had happened. To my utter amazement, I was unscathed. I had ducked down the instant realized my mistake and, aside from needing new shorts, I was fine.....

    Hi,

I found this furniture wax for sale here in Australia and was wondering if the ingredients would make it a suitable substitute for JPW - they are listed as 'PURE YELLOW BEESWAX IS BLENDED WITH PLANT DERIVED CARNAUBA WAX, LINSEED OIL, OLIVE OIL & NATURAL, PURE GUM RESIN TURPENTINE'?

I'm currently using a lube that is half ed's red (beeswax + dexron) and half LsStuff carnuba red.

I have not gotten a chance to shoot it yet, but I'm loving the way it looks. It isn't as sticky, yet push a ball between thumb and finger and it is very easy to mold.

I'm not sure about the turpentine, that is great for wood, but not so sure about rifle barrels.
The rest of the contents look good. What does it "feel" like?

Give it a try. The turpentine will probably evaporate off if you give it a chance.

turpentine has been used in a few gun cleaner recipes.
it's the linseed oil I wouldn't care for it's a bit tacky and unpredictable until it dries.
anyway the polish is nowhere close to jpw in ingredients.
I'd just get some paraffin and some carnuba wax, keep the carnuba down to about 3% of the total recipe volume.
cut the melted paraffin/jpw mix with mineral spirits as part of the recipe, it will evaporate no matter how much you use.
I use 50% mixed with the alox when I make it and it dries quickly without issue.

I just mix a big candle with some carnuba wax , I get the carnuba from M10 , its made by Feast and Watson , comes in Natural (white ) and Brown , smells like citrus
I just blend them together . then I add the Lee Alox mixed with the white spirit.

Cast bullet engineering is now selling the While Labels 45-45-10 lube http://www.castbulletengineering.com...es/bullet-lube

I have bought some carnuba wax off ebay to make up my own mix. While it is expensive a little goes a long way.

.o.k. went to town and found some . while looking for something else.

    FeastWatson
    mastertouch
    canuba wax
    Natural. 917-94822
    Smells like lemons.
    $40 bucks for 500g tin

MsDs sheet says its >60% di-Limonene
    1<10% White spirit sodden solvent
    to 100% un hazardous substances.

O.k. forgot what I wanted it for now but have some beeswax vasolene and amphourious lanolin.
Any good recipies for paper patching and mostly plain base bullets??

I've been using 50-50 beeswax and Vaseline (lip balm)with a dash of lanolin which seems to have changed it to something like dubbin.
Seems to work but a bit sticky and messy on the fingers.

What can I do with this stuff??

    Thanks
    Bruce

Do you have Minwax products down there? My version of 45/45/10 uses their Paste Finishing Wax since I already had a can on the shelf. They did not tell me what is in it when I asked other than the msds stuff, but it works well.
