probably just have to begin with some rules and dates i magine. could make the first few pretty simple and straight forward and maybe do an additional match that will take an entrance fee eventually for prizes and such. dont know why this couldnt start a quarterly match with different rules for winter n summer n spring n fall.

The CBA has a series of Postal Matches. One of them is the Single Shot Rifle. It is shot at 100-yards. There is a group event where you shoot (2) 5-round groups. There is a score event using (10) shots and an off-hand event, again using (10) shots. I use my 74 Sharps and black powder when doing it.

This isn't a CBA event but it would be interesting to get it started. Not everyone has access to 200-yards or 200-meters but there could be a chicken shoot where you shoot from the bench at an NRA/IHMSA Big Bore (paper) chicken, (10) shots. The X (tie breaker) could be a typical white paster put in the center of the target. Hits that are entirely on the animal would be one point. This is the same target size that the NRA BPCR silhouette people use but they have to shoot off-hand at it at 200-meters.

This the second attempt to post this. If you take too long to compose a response, something times out and your composition is lost. So this was done in Word and cut and pasted into the message box.

To shoot in a CBA Postal you need to be a CBA member. If you go here… http://www.castbulletassoc.org….and go to the LH bottom under Postal Matches and click there, you’ll see a match program. On page 12, that Single Shot Postal has a target return/due date of 1 Sept. You might be pressed now on June 25th to join the CBA, order targets, get them shot and then returned by the due date.

I doubt that Cast Boolits is interested in sponsoring or getting formally involved in backing a postal event. Most likely this is going to be the effort of an individual. Here is how the CBA approaches it.

Single shot rifle, NO bolt actions, NO magazines. Rounds must be manually inserted into the chamber. Bullets can be breech seated and the powder charged case can (not mandatory) be inserted afterwards, if so desired, or a muzzle loader can be used. Plain base (NO gas check) bullets only. Paper patched or grease groove is OK. No barrel length or weight limit. Not as stringent as the NRA BPCR rules,,,,.exposed hammer, pre-18XX USA design, etc.

Two categories, iron sights or scopes (no power limit). Target distances are 100-yards. There are (3) events….score, group and off-hand. All targets are either the TQ-4 100-yard smallbore target or the CBA score or group target.

Here is how the CBA structures the range activities:

    Off-hand for score:
    10-shots in 30-minutes on the TQ-4 target.

    Bench for score
Iron sights---(2) TQ-4 targets, shoot 5-rounds on each target, 15-minutes per target
Scope---(1) CBA target, shoot 2-rounds on each of 5 bulls, 10-shots in 30-minutes

    Bench for group
Iron sights---(4) TQ-4 targets, shoot 5-rounds on each target, 15-minutes per target
Scope---(4) CBA targets, shoot 5-rounds on each target, 15-minutes per target.

A sighter target is included for each event. During the allowed time you can shoot as many shots at the sighter as you want but you still must get your record shots off in the allowed time onto the record target. And...this is an honor system.

After all copying, postage and target costs are paid, the remaining funds are distributed to the top shooters on a scale based upon the number on entries in the event. NO ON GETS RICH doing this.

I’m a silhouette shooter and lean towards the one mentioned earlier, the chicken shoot at 200-meters/yards (see 24 June post above). Hits only count as a single point and hits striking the white paster center are used to break ties. Could add another factor to it…make it a combined thing. You use group size of all (10) hits on the paper, whether they are “hits” or not, and use group size to break the tie. Or put scoring rings on the chicken and add up the total point value and then subtract the group size to get a numerical value as the shooter’s “score”. Maybe I should try this before promoting it as a possibility. I’ll try to do it one day this week.

Our club isn’t accessible to members Oct.1 end of Nov. as we are open only to the public for “deer rifle sight-in”. So a due date of say mid-Dec. might be something to “shoot for”.

    FWIW

    BP cartridge postal match

There is a monthly slug gun/bp cartridge postal match that has recently been brought back to life. You can find out info on it at the WSU Wyoming Schuetzen Union forum.
Go to general discussion and scroll down to see the results of the last two months. Might have to scroll to the second page to get the rules. We sure would like to have more BP shooters join in
