Some more info-- the 12ga Helix cushion driver 18 wad is what
I mentioned and it is over 1/8 inch shorter than the 12ga trap commander
and alot more shorter than other majority of other wads
so more powder room. I mis-spoke the 525gr above was a lyman slug and I've
also used Lee Key 1 oz slug. Along with 3 inch case we have the room,
    for 90gr 4759....

The reason I mention a minimum of 70gr in 12ga is so that we don't
have delayed ignition. And you can't get enough powder in with
slugs 600 gr and under to hurt any modern medium weight
    barrel gun or action.

The 4759 powder gets to peak pressure so much slower and easier
than regular shotgun powders, that it is much easier on cases and wads,
so much so, you don't need cards under the slugs that take up space.
On most loads with Helix cushion driver 18, I use one BPGS seal with it,
    they fit together perfect.Ed.

I like Alliant Steel also as it fills in between Blue Dot and 4759.

But if you got room you can''t beat 4759 as you can go 65gr or more
in 20 ga with 400-450gr slugs and with tough cases no sticking.
It being slower to peak pressures, is absolute safest to load.

Ajay, you gonna have to get into roll crimping.ED

It proves that with lighter slugs that a deeper crimp is needed for
good combustion. And your deeper not so fancy, star crimp,
had same effect as a roll crimp. 99% percent of factory discarding sabot
and SPW type slug loads are roll crimped. Ed

To get more powder room for 4759 powder in 20ga with Commander wad.
cut bottom and cushion off of the wads. Use a 20ga white 1/4" felt wad under it
with a 20ga BPI obturator powder seal. Will seal up better for speed and the felt wad
will push and compress squarer so that cup comes out with square push
and 58cal minie slug will be more accurate,There is also a shorter 20ga wad
from BPI called Sporting 20 Short. It is .22" shorter.ED

Hey Vdo, seems you've been busy with the slug experimentation. I seen a couple of decent groups in those post. It looks like you enjoy what your doing. I've been a little busy but hope to start experimenting myself again soon. Good luck.

    Good info.

I don't load at all if I have to rush the process. I make sure I have enough time to finish before I start. AND I load alone. No one else there talking or asking questions to distract me. No tv or ipod.

    NO SMOKING

I have my log completed as to what I am loading. shell, primer, sizing, powder, weight, etc so I know what components I should have on the bench. Once all loaded, I mark the log as such.

Only one powder on the bench when loading, double check for correct powder.

I weigh each powder charge twice. Maybe this is going a bit far but I write down on a note in front of the scales what charge weight I want to load.

I always keep my shells - shotgun, pistol, and rifle, all up side down until loaded with powder. Once the powder is in, insert the wads and slug, wads and shot, or bullet, then crimp or seat, and put finished round in the box. Next round, insert powder etc etc. Once I have powder in the shell, I don't put it down until it is loaded complete and boxed.

    Always, always, wear safety glasses.

This hits the high spots but isn't everything.

Stay alert! When you get complacent, you begin to make mistakes.

I keep my brass/hulls upside down until I charge them with powder and then transfer them to another tray after they're charged. It keeps me from double charging.

1768 with 4759 load, great deal for 20ga with soft cases and lack of room due to
long wadcup. Should get enough 4759, enough in with shorter cup, to get 1850
    or more.Super with 20 ga using 456gr slug.ED
