I have an opportunity to buy a Lyman Ideal in 38-55 for $1050. Brand new in the box.
I like this neat "mini" Sharps rifle.
Anyone have any range time with one?

There is three page thread just above your thread with the same question. There is lots of info in that thread, and it has been going on for over a year. Lots of good reading. I don't know anything about the Mini-Sharps, but I like the cartridge. I have a Marlin in 38-55 and I really the way it shoots. I have shot with several guys at the cowboy shoots that have standard sized Sharps in 38-55 and they love them.
After making this post the thread is down below about 10 or 12 threads.
That is a real nice gun... you'll love it. Get it...
I really like the 38-55 and have had numerous rifles in the chambering. My personal opinion is that the Lill Sharps is too light for extended shooting sessions. Yeah, it can be ameloriated by pads and such but I'd lots rather have one in 32-40 or 25-35
