    Why wouldn't it be ok?

I use whatever brass I can for BP and have not had any problems. However, I do not shoot a lot of BP, just every now and then.

As long as the fouled brass has not been "un-neutralized' for too long, i.e., put in soap and water or vinegar and water, or whatever your favorite concoction is.
I try to put my fired brass in the water mix right away, that way I get many reloads of them.

Is there something I am missing ? What else do I need to be aware of ?

As expensive as 45-70 brass is, if you found a deal, I'd jump on it!

I've had great luck with Starline 45-70. Some cases have 40 + reloads, and still fine. I do not crimp or resize for my Sharps; however, I do anneal from time to time.

Lead pot's right. Don't buy Hornady brass! It's way too short! It's designed for their flexible tip ammo only. I hate to see someone go through what I went through, that's why I tell. They should say something on the box.

    Thanks!

    I didn't think of that.

Hornady produces some calibers of brass in 2 sizes, regular SAAMI and Leverevolution. So when dealing with the usual lever action calibers, we do need to be aware of which brass we have (or what once fired brass is being sold). It may be that they only sell standard brass when selling brass only, but I don't know that to be true. We can be sure that if we buy Leverevolution ammo, the brass will be short.

    Hope that helps.

Oh, and "Star brand" (Starline) is good brass, but some calibers might need annealing before use because Starline produces the brass to stand up to "hot" smokeless loads (e.g. .45-70) and the brass might not obturate with the lower pressure BP loads.
