I tinker with old motorcycles. Some have a built up crank made out of flywheels an shafts. Assembling these cranks isn't hard, a 20 ton press works great, getting them straight is the problem.
The repair manual that talk about crank build say to use a lead hammer for truing.
Place the crank on vee block, use dial indicators to find the spots where they are off. Then set them on the floor and hit the flywheels with the lead hammer to align the parts, place back in the blocks, check the true, repeat as needed to get the crank to spin true.
The lead hammer can hit the flywheels hard enough to move the parts without hurting the flywheels.
That's why I made one. Used the soda can, it may be heavy but you don't have to swing it hard to get the job done.

I’ve got one that’s either bronze or brass that was in my dad’s stuff. Good to use when there’s a chance of a miss. No permanent marks on your work.

I use a 3 thistles snuff can to mold small lead hammer. Put in hole for handle, pour and tear can of with dikes. Have handle from broken RCBS bullet puller that I use for small hammer. When it gets beat up I melt off and repour.
