My new MIMEK nose pour mold (215gn .358 TC)

Yes, the company is called MIMEK. I did not misspell "Mihec".

I do not know the particulars, but from what I've read they were made here in Sweden and sold by three or four different shops in Sweden and Norway.

I have long been craving the 215gn .358 with gas check shank. During a competition last december I personally saw a fellow shooter repeatedly shoot this bullet into 4-5" groups at 330 yards. Yes, you read that correct. 330 yards at a rifle range (300 meters). He was using a Freedom Arms 353 in .357 Magnum in a creedmore (silhouette) position.

It arrived today covered in grease and has never been used.
Somewhat of a rarity, as these are no longer made.

But enough with the ranting... Here is my .358 215gn truncated cone mold:

Note the single sided venting as well as the multiple handle style options.

The only store I know of that is stilling carrying these is Gun-Trans in Swedish town of Trollhättan. It is run by an elderly married couple who were robbed and severely physically assaulted about a year ago by some foreign mob guys who stole about a hundred of their shop's guns, so they are very wary about unknown customers. If you are clear about what you want and show interest in their products I have found them to be very friendly. I am not sure about their English capabilites, but you can try e-mailing them at gun-trans@tele2.se

I found the entire mold list here: http://hem.passagen.se/vargon40/mimek/MIMEK.pdf
It is in Swedish, but pretty self explanatory.
"Bottenfyllda" = bottom filled / traditional
"Toppfyllda" = top filled / nose pour

    I just dropped Gun-Trans an e-mail. I got a response after about a day.
I do not know if they do international orders, but you can try.

It is in the middle of the night here in Sweden. Wait a day or so and they will get back to you. Make sure you type the adress correctly, it is gun-trans@tele2.se

    Way to go Whistler!
    They are really great molds!
The weight was a surprise to me having only used aluminum ones. Would really like some more of them but unfortunatley the one I'd like, 105 SWC is sold out
I've got the "304" .358 125gr mold. Drops good looking boolits. Missed some burrs when inspected it so had some trouble with sticky ones first try. After a little TLC they drop nicely

Havent fired the boolit yet, but looking forward to compare it to the LEE's 120gr TC I use.

    I just love it!

And with the FreeChex III gas checks...
(the .008" aluminum sits like a glove!)

The right hand side boolits are the LEE C358-158-SWC.

    Tried some loads today.

I had to trim the .357 Magnum cases so the boolit would fit my cylinder.
Here is the best load at 100 meters (109 yards) shot from a S&W Model 28 .357Mag with an 11.5" Lothar-Walther custom barrel.

The load is 9.1gn of VihtaVuori N110 with Federal Small Pistol Magnum primers.
Quickload estimates the pressure to 22 000 PSI and the velocity to about 1085 fps.

The gaschecks are the aluminum ones made with FreeChex III shown above.
Some recovered boolits from the berth showed the GC still sitting on the deformed boolit.

will trimming the brass (shorter I assume)
have any adverse effect on the cartridge as far as pressure ?

It is hard to trim brass longer! Kind of like cutting your hair longer...
But hey, I don't know how you do it over there on the other side of the pond.

But to answer your question... If you would have had the same cartridge overall length with the longer case the pressure would be the same, and would do fine for something like a taper crimp target .38 Special load. But for this project I want to use a long boolit with lots of bore riding surface and a heavy crimp (I use the Redding Profile Crimp), which means I have to shorten the case a bit.

I don't really like to speak in terms of "increasing pressure", because I have not had a load with this boolit in its full OAL with full length brass. When I designed this load I knew that I would have to trim the brass and in such a case I worked up a load ladder that would keep me in safe pressure ranges according to comparative factors like CIP pressure standards, the build quality and pure metal thickness of the gun. QuickLoad has been an invaluable tool when comparing different load manuals and developing my own load.

But for the short answer... Yes, pushing a bullet deeper in the case increases the load if the powder charge is the same.

I've been doing more tests with .38 Special cases which seems to work fine. The real problem is that you have to use pretty fast powders (N105) because there's no room for the slow ones. That pretty much puts a cap on how fast you can push these in an N-frame.

one of those moulds in a 190gr weight would be just the cat's ass* for N-frame S&W's.

Have you found out about shipping of these moulds to the U.S.? In terms of U.S. currency what do these moulds cost? I`m interested in the rifle .416 mould, big surprise!Robert

That's a fine looking mold. I like nose-pours. I currently have three Hoch molds.

Here is the link to the manufactures website translated to english by Google. Link

Towards the bottom of the page, it lists the price as 800 euros, which is roughly $1055.

    roughly $1055

Are you missing a decimal in that price ?
    Is this price for 1 mold ? ? ?
