Is there a list somewhere of approximately how many cases it takes to weigh a pound, by caliber? For example, 50 9mm, 30 40S&W, 20 45 ACP, etc.?

I hope you mean just brass, not "cartridges"... Someone did the math on another forum... not my numbers, just passin' them on... don't know if these numbers include spent primers or not....

Thank you for that info, it will come in handy as we sell or trade alot of once fired brass! I have weighed enough cases to know that each brand is different but that is a good rough starting point.

If you would like to know how many rounds of brass you have lying around, as I did, you can use the information below. If anyone wants to count them out to see how close my calculations are let me know what you find out.

All weights are uncleaned fired cases with the primer remaining.
Individual case weights were derived using an average of mixed brass weights (except 50bmg)
So, if you picked up 8#s of 45 brass: 8# X 78.1cases/# = 625 cases+/-
If you use 1gal ziploc freezer bags to store your brass, each (full) bag contains:
9mm, 15.6#, 1836cases
40s&w, 12.2#, 1219cases
45acp, 11.4#, 890cases
223, 11#, 809cases
If you use 5gal buckets each full one will have
9MM = 8500-9000 pieces
.40 S&W = 7000-7500 pieces
.45 ACP = 3800-4000 pieces

You can add 780 22lr per pound
40lbs in a 5 gal bucket

If you want loaded ammunition bullet weights and powder charges are much more consistent than brass weights. As always 7000 grains in a pound as long as your not using Troy (like gold).

Exactally 184 mixed cases per pound ... if they are tumbled and you get the mix right. ??
Should be approximately 40 308 per lb. Or 25 lbs=1,000 308.

Pretty easy to figure, weigh 1/2 dozen cases, average the wts and divide into 7000.
