NCBB - nice work adapting what you have available. It's too bad the laws make it difficult to obtain the same supplies we have down here. I see you have a lathe. If you can get more commonly available 32 s&w brass, perhaps you could swage and turn down the OD to work in your rifle.

    NCBB,
Have you Looked into "Dixie Gun Works" Turned RF adapter Cases to try out? Perhaps they might be Easier To 'import" than CF Cases.
Also, a 'Possible' Way to get "raw None Fireable .32 SC Cases imported. Have someone Here in teh USA bore out the Primer Pocket and Flash Hole with a #2 size Drill Bit (.221" diameter). That size is large enough so no 'Typical' Primer could be fitted and Perhaps you could then import them as "Brass Dummy" cases rather than loadable CF cases.

    Best Regards,
    Chev. William

All good suggestions - however for me it is less about pulling the trigger and more about the challenge and doing it myself. I've got enough .32 Short Colt brass to keep me going, using this thread as really THE reference for "chambering" and loading. BUT as I say while that works great for the Favorite, my revolver is quite particular and this using a simple tube is the best solution I've found, for that gun. Any additional shim under the rim of the Ramset causes the cylinder to drag.

    John,
    Very Good informative Write-up!
By the way, have you noticed the "Handloader" article on potential ".25 Magnum Auto"
Just for "giggles' check out the "Ammoguide Interactive" Cartridge number 971, searchable under ".25" in the Cartridge Master Data Base.

    Best Regards,
    Chev. William
also the Two that are listed, and Searchable under, "6.35".

I had bought some of the reloadable .32 RF cases years ago from DGW. I never tried to use them in my little .32 RF revolver though. But maybe one of these days I might have a go at it. Of course I need to get some .22RF blanks first though.

You can see the loose reloadable cases in the left center box adjacent to the extra cylinder there in the display box.

    Hi Guninhand,
I have purchased similar brass & projactiles from HC collection in france, its impossible to import from the USA to Australia, my problem is the bullet diameter (too big)

    Dave,
The bullet you are using sounds like it is outside lubed which uses the shorter .78" case since the bullet is close to the same o.d. as the case. I think if you shorten the case to .78" all might be well.........

First off, I just want to throw out a HUGE thank you to everyone who contributed to this thread. It really has been inspirational.
A friend of mine who has no interest in firearms found about 50 years ago in his Grandmother's attic a Remington rolling block 1 1\2 in .32 rf.
I took it completely apart and gave it a good scrubbing. It has a little cch left but it's mostly turned to a brown patina. The barrel is in beautiful shape. He has never shot it.
I am buying it from him and was trying to figure out what to do with it when I found this thread.
I decided I would try to build my own case out of some aluminum rod I had sitting here and see what happened.
My overall case length is .980 so it looks like it's a long. I drilled and recessed for empty .22 short cases. I filled them with fff pyrodex and seated a bullet that I made out of my reject 170 rf 30-30 bullets. I cut off the tip through the top lube band. The gas check taper fit my case perfectly.
I did not weigh the bullet. After a little clean up it chambered nicely. It was basically a wad cutter round.
It fired perfectly. I hit poa at about 15 yards. Really I was looking for proof of concept more than any accuracy.
The case survived it's initial firing so I loaded up another one and let my 9 y.o. shoot it. The trigger pull is heavy so he didn't like that but he enjoyed shooting it. The first thing he said was, "I love the smell of black powder." Yep, he is a next generation addict.
When we get back from elk hunting next week I may need to spend some more time on the lathe making more cases.
Ideally I would love to find some .32 long colts so I can get this done a lot faster.
3 young uns and an 18 acre ranch take up a ton of time for sure.
Thanks again for helping this old girl speak again after at least 50 years.
When I have time I will figure out how to post some pics.

    Modified5,
    Welcome to the Forum.

You might keep your eyes open for .32 Long Colt reloading dies, preferably at least a Carbide ring sizing die and a "Hollywood Engineering" or "Hollywood Gun shop" Alloy Steel sizing die. These two, when added to a Small Primer Pocket Swaging Punch with accessories, will allow resizing .337" diameter .32 S&W or H&R cases down to .318" Colt diameters.

My carbide ring die has a Large enough mouth to accept the S&W diameter Brass and squeeze it down to about .320" diameter right up to the top of the rim. i then push the case into the Steel die which has a much smaller Mouth and does squeeze those .320" diameter Cases down to .318" all the way to the top of the rim.

    {Something Went wrong with my Photobucket Image Post and At the Moment Photobucket is 'down" from my computer.}
.32 Colt Case Forming from .32 S&W Brass.
L to R: raw .32 S&W Long; Hollywood Eng. Carbide .32 Colt Long sizer (.320" Dia) first Stage die; First stage Formed Case; Hollywood eng. Alloy Steel .32 Colt sizing die (.318" Dia.) Second stage die; Second stage Formed Case; Old West Moulds .32 Long Colt Collet Crimp die set; OWM Shell Holder; .32 LC .760"; .32 LC .912"; .32 LC .932".

Then you will need to trim them for rim diameter and thickness and case length to match your chamber., Load and shoot them.

    best Regards,
    Chev. William

Here's a couple of pics of my RB and the case I made.
When I get some free time I am going to cut a few more, cast some bullets, and shoot for accuracy.
I eventually want to get the proper mould for this round, but this works for now.

Modified5, I like your rifle, I have it's twin, serial # 1557. Also have a Whitney in 32RF that is a kissing cousin of the Remington. You can fix that trigger pull by replacing the trigger spring with an after market one from; http://www.rollingblockparts.com/
You are starting down a slippery slope, I never use my .22's any more. The .32 is more fun.
PM me your address & I will send you some various bullets to try.

Thanks kootne. My receiver is stamped 845 and the barrel and tang are stamped 850.
    Haven't figured that one out.
My kid says his .22 "feels more powerful."
I told him that's because this gun weighs twice as much as his.
I think once I get more cases, and I might just order those converted .32 s&w cases, and a mould that this gun likes, I too will shoot this much more often.

I have a .32 short colt cartridge in my collection. I also bought some low powered nailgun blanks at a yard sale.
years ago a friend asked if I could find some .32 rimfire cartridges for an old pocket revolver he had.
I've had a box of .315 round balls for years intending to use these in .32 S&W plinking loads.

I may take a stab at boring out the base of the .32 Colt case and trying it out.

This last weekend I swaged down a batch of 50 each .327 Fed. Mag. New Starline Brass down to .32 Long diameters and turned the Displaced Brass 'ring' off about half of them. My Swaging Yield was about 94% as three "bellows deformed" in the first Step of my Swaging Process.

It looks like an "Custom" Order Lee .32 Cal Carbide Ring Sizing die of about .326" -.328" Diameter is in my future purchases as the Force Needed for my First Stage was more than I like, similar to my single stage Swaging of .22 Hornet New PPU Brass down to .276" body diameter.

The Starline New Brass seems to Grow Slightly in Length in the Swaging Process but the flash holes don't seem to get too Small for the decapping punch to fit. After swaging; the Cases measure about 1.205" long, .317" diameter at the mouth, and .320" near the Bottom (above the Extractor clearance cut).

Good Candidates for CF versions of the .32 Extra Long (at 1.150" case length) or even used as is for an even longer "Wildcat" revolver case. of course they would need to be less than 1.400" overall Length for use in my 'converted' .32 Ruger Single Six in custom chambered Stainless steel ".22-MAG" cylinders.

The Previous Weekend I had Swaged down 50 each .32 H&R magnum Cases to .32 Long diameters; only loosing one, to "Bellows Deformation", in that batch for a 98% yield.

    Best Regards,
    Chev. William

Hello, I know this is an old thread, but I was hoping someone could answer a few questions. This has been very interesting and inspiring to read!
I have an old RRB#2 that I used the Dixie cases in with Winchester black powder blanks and acorn blanks. I am now getting the components to convert .32 Colt cases.

What dies are you using? I hope to avoid sizing the cases, but how about decapping and belling the mouth of the cases? I am thinking about a universal decapping die and .32 ACP seating die. Not sure about belling the case mouth.

I know that I can get a crimp die from Old West Moulds or use a bullet sizing die so I am not worried about that, but is are you bothering or do you have sufficient neck tension?

IF .32 Colt dies were available that would be easisest, but those are pretty much unobtainium.

    Thanks so much, Keith

Went right to 32 Colt dies, long and short, if this is the same cartridge.
