I haven't found any particular solvent that harmed an anodized finish. Just clean it with what you would use in a regular gun.

That's true in the purest sense, but anodizing typically includes application of a sealer over the dye. So you'll want to stay away from anything that's got acetone, MEK, etc. Stick to the oil based cleaners like RemOil or Hoppe's 9 and you'll be fine.Originally Posted by stubshaft

The color is a dye added to the porous anodized surface layer.

If it was easy, anybody could do it.
I usually seal anodized parts with WD40. If you use the harsh solvents like MEK ,acetone brake cleaner etc. you will attack the anodized color eventually.
Best err on the side of caution

Bon Ami is a brand of cleaner that I use on a S&W 317 Scandium which has a surface finish that needs delicate handling. It works very well.
I use good old dawn dish soap and hot water. Never hurt any of my BP guns or the wife's pink lady.

DO NOT use any cleaners with any alkaline content. Don't ask how I know.
By the way, anyone know how to re dye a ruger trigger gard?
