well got some rd 460-425 bullets made up

My 45-70 1895 gg and contender carbine liked the rd 365 so much- I got the 425 mold with half plain base and half gc. The bullet with gc and lubed weighs around 439 grns. I loaded up a couple of different loads some with 36.5 grns of rl 7 and 28.5 grains of 5744. Anyone have any other loads for 430-440 grain bullets. Might have to use this bullet for elk this year.

52.0 of 3031 works fine for me.
Old enough to know better, young enough to do it anyway!

What are the strength differences, (if any), between the Contender and the Marlin? I believe I was instructed to keep pressures at or below 28,000 Psi for my 50-70 Contender. If that also holds true for the 45-70 Contender, firing too many 45,000 Psi Marlin loads might shorten the Contenders life a bit. Worth checking into if you intend to share the same loads. Have fun.

Try around 22 gr of 2400 with a tuft of Dacron to keep the powder over the primer. My Marlin shoots quite well with that load and the 425 RE bullet.
Should give around 1300 fps, be easy on the shoulder, and easy on the powder can.

Yep I shoot 28.5 grn of 5744 or 35.5 grns of re7 w/ the 365 rd in the contender. both loads are under 28k pressure. The 430 grn loads rt now are to find a load in my marlin guide gun.

I only have 1 load in my book with the RD425, it is 55 grains of H-335. I also have pressure as 41,300 Psi. presumably from a Quickload simulation.

52gr. of 3031 would be the load if you ever booked a T-Rex hunt. Otherwise 42g. (approx. 1600fps) will work just fine, I shoot it out to the 500m. Ram bank.

48.8 gr of H4895. If you hunt elk I would do a bullet test. I used 60/40 stick on clip on, heated and quenched. It worked, but to soft for my liking. Great alloy for deer.
