    Unknown Primer catcher

I bought this several years ago on another forum for antique reloading equipment. I thought it would fit on my old C-H single press. It didn't. Its made of what feels like cast aluminum, as you can see grey in color. Only markings on it are the numbers on the back. A parts number I think. Across the throat it is 1.414 inches. [img]

The primer catcher on my original RC was aluminum. Circa 1970.

Bwana: Was it this color and unmarked? If you still have it, and you don't have to climb in the attic to find it, can you measure the throat of it with calipers or rule? Any info would be appreciated. This will probably end up on PIF or to a new caster that needs it.

It didn't look like that. It looked like the plastic ones that came after, just made of Al with about one eighth of an inch thick walls.

I think it had two studs that you hooked a rubber band on to keep it on the press. Been a long, long time since i've seen it; but, it's most likely around here somewhere.

Glenn, bring that rascal over next time you drive this way. I have several presses to try it on and a friend had a rockchucker jr. that we can try it on, along with several others I can't remember the name of.

Speaking of primer catchers, does anyone have any ideas that work for a Lee turret press. I have one that came in a heavy duty maple box that I've been using for about 30 years and that is my only complaint with the press. I've been getting by with a modified gallon milk jug, held under the press with heavy rubber bands. It's hard to believe they didn't work a primer catcher into their original design. What is everyone else using?

It is a C-H. The number on the bottom, 204-1 indicates that it fits only the Model 204 press. I am tired tonight, to much weekend and bad roads, so digging through the files to figure out just which press that is will have to wait.

Is this it? One of the pictures shows the Al primer catcher.

lbaize3--planning on coming over tomorrow with some stuff we spoke of earlier and more. Will bring it over then. Ickisrulz--I looked at the pictures--this one does not have the reinforcing bands (vertical) that are shown on the C-H.

That's the one I was racking my brain wondering about. I knew it wasn't the RCBS one, I have one of those.

I'm sure Pressman will enlighten us.

After looking at my press and this thing, I think Pressman is right. Mine is a 206. With a part # of 204-1, it only makes sense that it would fit that. I don't know how many part numbers one would find on a single stage press, but that part number on the primer catcher makes sense. It comes close to fitting mine, but that only counts in horse shoes, grenades and mortar rounds I have been told. The one on ebay is heavier than this, with what appears to be vertical re-inforcing ribs. It also looks like it has the old CH logo cast in it. Could be mine is a later production trying to reduce production costs, or maybe contracted with an outside foundry to produce this part.

Notice the ebay tool. The press frame is not round. Every C-H press has a different frame shape. Also notice how that one fits, the shiney metal clip on the press frame that holds the catcher in place.

Mine has a couple of lips that appear to hook/clip to the press body at the back/rear. It fits around the ram, and seems to be of a similar shape, but is too deep to clip to the press. Distance from front to back of opening of catcher too long. It'll take some time, but I'll figure it out.

    Hi,
The CH 204 is a cool press,a lot like my Pacific Super Deluxe press. My Pacific has a plastic primer catcher and I enjoy using it. A CH 204 with the metal catcher would be bad to the bone! I've been keeping my eye out for one!

    The floor.
That was what used to catch most of mine. (And still has a bunch on it)

I have my RCBS, and Load master shotgun presses now guided into a common trash can (metal).
But I do my decapping on my Forester press now. Before tumbling the brass.
